Many high school football standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. If you have alumni news, please send it to Colton Wilson by 10 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Alumni Update

State football is only one day away in the state. That means that after Friday, another high school football season is in the books. Some athletes playing this weekend and throughout the season will be taking that next step and playing football at the next level. This week we again highlight those that already have taken that step.

Florida International University has been led all season by Bowling Green transfer quarterback James Morgan. The Ashwaubenon High School graduate led the Panthers to a 45-7 blowout win over UTSA Saturday by throwing for 291 yards and three touchdowns. In doing so, he became FIU’s single season record holder in passing touchdowns in a season with 24.

The WIAC concluded their regular season this past weekend with a great slate of games.

WIAC champion UW-Whitewater beat UW-Platteville 49-21 to conclude an undefeated regular season. Senior defensive tackle Harry Henschler of Janesville Craig sacked the quarterback for the seventh time this season and helped lead the Warhawk defense to limiting UW-Platteville to 25 rushing yards on 31 attempts. Henschler was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Offensively Ryan Wisniewski (Sparta) had five catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns while JT Parish (Cambridge) had two receiving scores himself.

UW-Stevens Point finished the regular season with a 39-25 win over UW-River Falls behind the arm and legs of quarterback Max Herro. Herro, a Kettle Moraine graduate, threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns as well as rushed for 115 yards and a score. His offensive outbreak led to him being named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Wide receivers Christian Almonte (Menomonee Falls) and Jonte Webb (Marinette) both had over 100 yards receiving and at least one touchdown reception. Boyd Delebreau finished his college career off in spectacular fashion for the defense. The Chilton alum had three tackles, a sack, and blocked two extra points. Delebreau was named the WIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Steven Makinen saw his first extended action ins UW-Oshkosh’s 27-13 win over UW-Stout. The Beloit Memorial grad threw for 283 yards and a score. Pulaski’s Joe Franks also saw his first extended playing time at running back and got into the end zone twice on the ground.

Robert Windsor was an absolute terror for Penn State’s defense as they beat Wisconsin 22-10 this past weekend. The former Fond du Lac standout had six tackles and two sacks in the game. Windsor has five and a half sacks on the season thus far.

Chris Garrett continued his absolute domination of Northern Sun foes this past weekend in a 24-20 loss to Winona State. Garrett, a Wisconsin Lutheran grad, lit up the stat line by producing nine tackles, three and a half sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and also a pass breakup. He was named the Northern Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. He ends the regular season leading all of division 2 football in sacks with 16.5.

Minnesota Duluth’s defense stifled Northern State in their 40-13 victory. Gus Wedig (Big Foot), Alex Helmer (Prescott), and Nate Pearson (Northwestern) both had sacks while Bryce Juedes (Homestead) recorded his first collegiate interception.

Former Monona Grove quarterback Alec Ogden seems to have hit his stride at the end of the season at Bemidji State. In a 69-7 win over Minot State, Ogden threw for his second consecutive four-touchdown game.

Syracuse football has had a resurgence this season and a lot of that has to do with their prolific offense. Airon Servais of Ashwaubenon starts on the offensive line for the Orange that currently ranks fourteenth in yards per game, and seventh in points per game. In Saturday’s 54-23 throttling of Louisville, the offense rushed for 326 yards and totaled 518 yards in the win.

Seth Wilson saw his first action of the season for North Dakota State in their 48-7 win over Missouri State. The Holmen alum rushed for 95 yards in his debut this season while teammate Nate Jenson (Waupaca) had two catches for 81 yards and a score.

St. Norbert’s offense has been highlighted multiple times in the alumni round-up as their in-state recruits have put up big numbers. In Saturday’s 10-7 win over Monmouth College, the defense took center stage as they recorded six interceptions. Nate Essman (Mukwonago) and Hunter Prokash (Algoma) each had an interception. Joe Peterson of Union Grove High School had an incredible three interceptions on defense. Green Bay Preble’s Ben Kornowski also recorded an interception that he returned 43 yards for St. Norbert’s lone touchdown in the game.

Daniel Carter got it going in Grinnell’s final regular season game, a 41-31 win over Beloit College. The Marquette High School alum rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, Michael Lafayette (Madison East) had six tackles, two sacks, and forced two fumbles for Beloit.
