Week 1 WisSports.net Boys Basketball Coaches Poll

Division 1

Brookfield Central gets the early nod in the Division 1 Coaches Poll, which proves to be wide open this year with defending champion Oshkosh North not even receiving votes. Waukesha West, ranked #1 in the division by Mark Miller in the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, is second, followed by Sussex Hamilton, Kimberly, and Brookfield East.

Division 2

Things change quickly in high school hoops, and that is exemplified by Nicolet earning the top spot in the rankings thanks in large part to multiple talented transfer players, headlined by Jalen Johnson. La Crosse Central is second after three straight state tournament appearances, with defending champion Kaukauna the third-ranked squad. Milwaukee Washington topped Racine Park in impressive fashion to open the year, but the Purgolders dropped a tough one to Martin Luther as a follow-up and come in fourth.

Division 3

The votes were spread out quite a bit, with four different teams receiving at least one, number one vote. Waupun gets the edge, followed by Martin Luther. Wisconsin Dells' impressive last-second win over Mineral Point last week helped jump the Chiefs to sixth to begin the year.

Division 4

Another division where there wasn't much consensus is Division 4, as five teams received at least one vote for the top spot. New Glarus has started 4-0 and gets a slight edge to begin the year. Mineral Point, preseason #1 by Mark Miller, is second after a last-second loss to Wisconsin Dells last week.

Division 5

Like Division 4, there were five different teams to receive at least one, number one vote this week. Sheboygan Lutheran ends up in the top spot, however, followed by Columbus Catholic. Defending champion Bangor comes in third. Wild Rose is fifth, as the Wildcats have already played and won five games.
