Jed Kennedy will leave Brookfield Central for a position in Alabama

Brookfield Central head coach Jed Kennedy informed his team today that he has stepped down after five seasons with the Lancers, compiling a 49-12 record with three Greater Metro Conference championships and Division 2 state runner-up finishes the last two seasons. Kennedy is also resigning as a physical education teacher at the school.

On January 3rd, Kennedy will become the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Alabama. Enterprise recently hired Rick Darlington as the school's head football coach. Darlington was previously the head coach at Apopka (FL), where he won three state championships for one of the top high school programs in the country.

"It's never easy telling the players or assistant coaches that you've taken another position," said Kennedy. "But ultimately it was too good of situation to pass up.

"Brookfield Central is a great place that has tremendous support and awesome kids. It's truly one of the best jobs in the state and things are in place to build on the recent the success."

A graduate of Alma High School, Kennedy started his coaching career in Illinois before moving to Kenosha Bradford, where he led the Red Devils to the 2011 state championship and was named the WFCA/Packers Coach of the Year. He moved on to Pulaski for one season before making the trip south to Florida, serving as the head coach at Edgewater High School in the Orlando area. After one year there, he returned to Wisconsin at Brookfield Central.

Kennedy led the Lancers to the last two Division 2 state championship games, falling to Waunakee in 2017 and Homestead this year. He compiled a 49-12 record at the school, and has a 115-47 career record in five stops.

"Since taking over the at Brookfield Central in 2014 I haven't looked at or applied for any other jobs," Kennedy added. "However, when Coach Darlington called and offered me the position and we talked about his vision and the situation at Enterprise High School, I knew it was something we needed to look into. In my opinion, Coach Darlington is one of the best head coaches in the country and was excited that our philosophy, goals and visions couldn't be more similar.

"Ultimately the job at Enterprise was too good of a situation for my family to pass up. It's a great place to live, has a top notch school system, gives my wife a chance to chase her professional goals and lastly gives me the chance to follow my dreams in the coaching profession."
