Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

Marinette remains a half game ahead of Waukesha in the WCC-East Division after impressive wins over Fox Valley and Marathon in the last week.

Waukesha pulled away from Fond du Lac for a 70-60 win last Wednesday, as four players reached double-figures. The Cougars led by just one at halftime before outscoring the Falcons 36-27 after the break.

Also on Wednesday night, Sheboygan won a highly-competitive affair with visiting Richland, 75-72. Dylan Martens continued his strong season with a big performance (see below for more).

Fox Valley found itself down by seven at halftime against Rock on Saturday but had a big second half to win 73-71. Daniel Hiroskey (Kaukauna) had 29 points, making six, three-pointers in the game. John Moran chipped in with 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Looking Ahead

Tonight is the last big day of games until after the new year, as 12 of the 13 teams are in action.

Of note, Sheboygan travels to Waukesha this evening in the only match-up between teams with winning records. Sheboygan has won two in a row and three of the last four, while Waukesha dropped a game at Madison College on Monday but beat Fox Valley and Fond du Lac the previous two contests.

The West Division is a bit of a mess right now, with three teams tied atop the standings at 2-2. Two of those programs, Marshfield and Baraboo, meet up this evening in Baraboo.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Dylan Martens, Sheboygan

Dylan Martens (Sheboygan South) has been one of the most improved players in the WCC this season, making the leap to 20 points and 12 rebounds per game after averaging just six points and five rebounds per contest a year ago. He's also increased his free throw percentage from 52% to 78%. He had an outstanding all-around game as the Wombats topped Richland 75-72 in a very competitive game. He scored 22 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, had eight steals, five assists, and two blocks.
