Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

It was a week of statement games in the WCC, as several teams took a big step forward in advance of the upcoming holiday break.

Last Wednesday, Fond du Lac went up early and pulled away late to defeat Waukesha 64-48. Hannah Preissner (Winnebago Lutheran) led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelsey Margelofsky (Mayville) chipped in 15 points.

Marathon got 20 points from Chelsey Gliniecki (Stratford) to beat visiting Richland 45-28.

The big game of the week was on Saturday, as Marinette welcomed in defending league champion Marathon. Marinette beat Marathon once already this year, and made it twice in an impressive 74-53 victory. Marathon led 15-11 after the first quarter, but Marinette had a 26-8 advantage in the second quarter to set the tone for the rest of the game.

Looking Ahead

There are two games this evening and a couple of out-of-conference contests on Friday before teams take a couple weeks off for the holiday break.

Marinette looks to continue its strong season with a home game against Fond du Lac. The Falcons started 2-0 but fell to Marathon 54-42 on Monday.

WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Hannah Preissner, Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac split a pair of games in the last week, defeating Waukesha last Wednesday before falling to Marathon on Monday night. Second-year player Hannah Preissner of Winnebago Lutheran averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest in the two games.
