Looking Back

Last Wednesday's WCC schedule was wiped out by weather, but it was a scorching week of games overall in the conference.

Let's start at the top, where Marinette and Sheboygan remain tied  in the WCC-East with just a week left in the season. Marinette scored a huge 83-75 victory over Waukesha on Saturday, as Cam Willemsen had 23 points, Connor Nelson (Marinette HS) 22, Levi Kempka 18 and Preston Lauscher 14 in the victory. The Buccaneers faced another extremely challenging game last night, needing double-overtime to knock off Fond du Lac 101-96.

Sheboygan kept pace in the title chase with a 70-68 victory over Waukesha last night. Both Dylan Martens (Sheboygan South) and Steve Sokolowski (Sheboygan North) had double-doubles in the win. The Wombats did drop a non-conference game earlier in the week to the MSOE JV squad.

Fond du Lac got four games in over the past six days, going 2-2. The Falcons got past Washington 79-73 on Friday, as five players hit double-figures. Fond du Lac saw five players hit double-digits again on Saturday in a high-scoring 114-83 win against Fox Valley. The Falcons did drop the last two games, however, going down to the Marian JV in overtime on Monday before last night's double-overtime heartbreaker to Marinette.

Marathon wrapped up a first place finish in the WCC-West division, going 2-1 in league action. The Huskies beat Rock and Barron, but fell to rival Marshfield 61-60 in overtime on Monday night.

Looking Ahead

There is just one week left in the 2018-19 regular season, though some exciting hoops action remains.

Waukesha has a pair of non-conference games to close the regular season, taking on the Wisconsin Lutheran JV tonight before hosting Maranatha Baptist tomorrow.

The WCC-East is setting up for an exciting finish, with Sheboygan and Marinette tied at the top. Marinette has one game remaining, a showdown at home with Washington on Saturday. For Sheboygan, they have two games remaining, neither gimmes by any means. The Wombats travel to Fox Valley on Saturday before closing things out with a home game against a solid Washington squad on Monday.

While Marathon has secured the WCC-West title, the second-seed from the West Division will go to Baraboo, who is 6-7 in league play with two road games remaining against Rock and Marathon. Marshfield could tie the Spirits if Baraboo loses both games and Marshfield wins their one remaining contest, but Baraboo would still hold the tiebreaker due to a pair of head-to-head wins over the Marauders.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Alexander Moore, Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac went 2-2 in an extremely busy week of games, and Alexander Moore was the leading scorer in three of those contests. In the four games he averaged 16.75 points per game to go with four rebounds and nearly three steals per game. The Falcons wrap up the regular season with a home game against Barron on Saturday.
