Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

Fond du Lac guaranteed itself at least a share of the WCC Women's Basketball title with a pair of victories last week. The Buccaneers had no trouble with Washington on Monday in an 82-30 victory.

That set the stage for a huge game last night, as the Falcons and Marinette squared off, each unbeaten in league play at the time. Fond du Lac led 39-22 at halftime but had to hold off a late Marinette rally before winning 59-53.

Marathon had a trio of games in the last week, dropping a non-conference affair with Gogebic Community College (MI) on Saturday before a pair of dominating wins over Marshfield and Barron this week.

Looking Ahead

Saturday is the last day of the WCC regular season, as Marinette has a chance to secure an outright league title with a home game against winless Barron.

Marinette is hoping for a miracle upset by Barron, as a Buccaneers win at home against Washington would then put them into a tie for first (though the top seed in the playoffs would still belong to Marinette due to tiebreakers). Either way, a win secures them the second-seed in the playoffs.

Marathon is locked into the third seed, while Waukesha will be the four and Washington the five (regardless of the outcome versus Marinette). Speaking of Marathon and Waukesha, they close the regular season with non-conference games on Saturday.

WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Patience Pyan, Marathon

Pyan earns her second Player of the Week award this season after a couple big showings last week. While she missed last Saturday's game against Gogebic Community College (MI), a 69-58 loss, Pyan returned with a vengeance on Monday night. In a 96-33 win over Marshfield, she scored a career-high 46 points to go with 10 rebounds, seven steals, and four assists. In a 96-22 win over Barron last night she added 18 points.
