Looking Back

Not surprisingly, Sheboygan and Marinette closed out the regular season with a shared WCC-East title, each going 14-2 in league play.

Marinette went out to a 54-26 lead before cruising home to a 92-65 victory over Washington on Saturday to secure at least a share of the crown. Sheboygan beat FoxValley handily the same day, then dispatched Washington to grab their share of the top spot.

Marathon had wrapped up the WCC-West title long ago, but the Huskies closed the year with a couple impressive victories. They wrapped up the league portion of their schedule on Saturday with a 96-73 win over Baraboo, as five players hit double figures. Monday night, Marathon claimed a 91-84 overtime victory against Gogebic Community College (MI), as again five players reached double-digits in points.

Looking Ahead

It is on to the playoffs for WCC men's teams. The quarterfinal action in each division takes place tonight, with semi-finals on Saturday. The winners of those semifinal games will head to the WCC State Tournament, which will take place Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Dylan Martens, Sheboygan

Who else but Dylan Martens of Sheboygan (Sheboygan South HS) could claim the final WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season. His fourth weekly award, Martens helped the Wombats close out the year with a share of the WCC-East title and a top seed in the playoffs. In a win over Fox Valley on Saturday he scored a game-high 25 points on just 14 field goal attempts, pulling down 14 rebounds as well. He poured in 29 points with 18 rebounds in a victory against Washington on Monday. Martens has already set a new single-season school record for points heading into the playoffs.
