Game Description

Garett Phillips got the season started with a bang as he led off the game with a solo home run in the team's first AB. Dan Bachman added a 2 run double in the 2nd to put the Mounders up 5-0 after 2 innings. The Mounder bats went silent after that and the game saw Prescott tie the game scoring 4 in the 4th and one in the 5th with the aid of a tough hop grounder plating 2 along with some walks and hit batters mixed in. The Mounders saved the best for last as they erupted for 6 runs in the top of the 8th, including a 2nd 2 run hit by SS Dan Bachman. Hunter Dicus added 3 hits of his own, including hustling out two hits on the infield. The pitching duties were shared equally by Phillips and Spehle, who both battled through early season control issues and fatigue in taking the mound for the first time outside of a gym. I was very proud of the guys as they started off the year at the defending D3 state champs on their home field. There were some mistakes made for our first time on a field which we can correct by getting reps on an actual field in upcoming practices. Every game is even more important and valuable as the number of contests have been cut short by the terrible spring weather.
