The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has released girls' basketball divisional placement and sectional assignments for the 2022-23 season.
Divisional Cutlines
Division 1 - 72 schools with an enrollment of 1,200 or above
Division 2 - 88 schools with an enrollment between 600 and 1,199
Division 3 - 91 schools (remaining teams split equally between D3 and D4)
Division 4 - 90 schools (remaining teams split equally between D3 and D4)
Division 5 - Smallest 128 schools

The 2024 WIAA State Tournament is set for March 7-8-9 at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Four teams advance to state in each of the five divisions.

Notes: Sectional 2 is the deepest sectional with Brookfield East, Hartford, Homestead, Kaukauna, and Kimberly, amongst others... Hortonville and Neenah are expected to battle for the Sectional 1 championship again this upcoming season... Arrowhead and Verona are the early frontrunners in Sectional 3... Sectional 4 is wide open after two-time defending state champion Kettle Moraine moved to Sectional 3...

St. Joan Antida/Tenor/Veritas (previous non-WIAA )

Notes: Three-time defending state champion Notre Dame moves to Sectional 1 (from Sectional 2)... Pewaukee, New Berlin Eisenhower, and New Berlin West move to Sectional 2 (from Sectional 4)... Waukesha West moves to Sectional 2 (from Sectional 3)... McFarland and Monona Grove are in the same half-sectional again this year, both teams are among the top teams in the division... Sectional 4 lost much of its depth with the three Woodland West schools moving to Sectional 2 which makes perennial power Pius XI Catholic the early favorite...

Notes: Sectional 1 is wide open after West Salem (state qualifier last season) moved up to Division 2; notable teams in the sectional include Altoona, Aquinas (D4 last year), Elk Mound, and Somerset... Sectional 3, which five of the last seven state champions have come out of, is strong again this upcoming season with Waupun (2022 state champion) and Lake Mills (2021 state champion) leading the way... Oostburg, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, and defending state champion Kewaskum move to Sectional 4 (previous Sectional 2) which includes Dominican and state runner-up Milwaukee Academy of Science...

Young Coggs (previous part of co-op with Milwaukee Marshall)
Notes: Defending state champion Laconia moves to Sectional 2 (from Sectional 4)... Last year's Division 5 state champion McDonell Central moves up to Division 4 and is placed in Sectional 1, which includes Colfax and Fall Creek, among others... Neillsville (previous Sectional 1) and Westfield (previous Sectional 2) move to Sectional 3 which includes Cuba City and New Glarus... The Prairie School is the clear favorite in Sectional 4 after defending state champion Laconia was moved to Sectional 2...

Athens, Wabeno/Laona (state qualifier last season), and Three Lakes/Phelps highlight the Sectional 2 grouping... Assumption moves to Sectional 4 (from Sectional 2) joining Lourdes Academy, Oakfield, Randolph, and Albany/Monticello to make it the deepest sectional in the division...
