Athlete of the Week Nominees: August 14-20

Joey Kallay, Franklin

Kallay put together a clutch performance as Franklin downed Catholic Memorial 31-24 in the Week 1 Kwik Trip & Wisconsin Dairy Game of the Week. The junior quarterback completed 16 of 27 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns as the Sabres avenged a week one loss from last season to the Crusaders. With the game tied, Kallay led Franklin down the field late in the fourth quarter, culminating in a go-ahead, game-winning touchdown pass to Jacques Brooks with 17 seconds left in the game.

Brianna Kisrch, Lancaster

Kirsch began her senior golf campaign in style, capturing a pair of individual titles in the two events she competed in. Kirsch and the rest of the Lancaster girls golf team competed at the Ringen Invitational at the Darlington Country Club early in the week. The senior golfer shot a 76 which was eight strokes better than the second place finisher. Kirsch then won a triangular at Cole Acres Country Club in Cuba City. She shot a three over par 39, winning the individual honors by three strokes.

Averi Larsen, Burlington co-op

Larsen took home a pair of individual wins and anchored a runner-up relay for the Burlington co-op girls swimming team at the Early Bird Invitational at Wauwatosa West. Larsen, a senior swimmer, won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.45, winning by over four seconds. She then won the 100 yard freestyle in 53.15 seconds, better than second place by over two seconds. Larsen then anchored the 200 yard freestyle relay team that finished runner-up in the event with a time of 1:44.28.

Kylie Walker, Westosha Central

Walker was lights out to start the 2023 girls golf season for Westosha Central. The senior took home individual medalist honors at the Brookfield/Homestead Invite at Wanaki Golf Course in Menomonee Falls. Walker shot a 67 and won by three strokes while Westosha Central took home a team title as well. She then competed in the Taylor Invite at Brighton Dale Links Golf Course in Kanasville. Kirsch shot a 68 to win the title. She finished three strokes ahead of her twin sister Katelyn, who finished runner-up.

Eva Willenbring, Aquinas

Willenbring began the 2023 season in great fashion competing at the La Crosse Invitation at Green Island. Friday, she won in straight sets in her matchup against Menomonie.
