Week 2 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

There wasn't a lot of change in the Division 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll, especially compared to some of the other divisions, with top-ranked Kimberly finally getting a game this, a close victory over Bay Port. Arrowhead does move up several spots to second this week after back-to-back wins against Marquette and Homestead. Marquette moves back into the poll this week coming off a 35-0 domination of Division 4 top-ranked Catholic Memorial.

Division 2

Kettle Moraine stays atop the Division 2 Coaches Poll, but the voting was very close with Waunakee receiving several first-place votes. Losses by Sun Prairie East and West De Pere drop those teams out of the top five, as the rest of the top group now includes Brookfield Central, River Falls, and Kaukauna. Beaver Dam's strong start has the Golden Beavers in the rankings for the first time in quite a while.

Division 3

It was note a good week at the top of Division 3, with the top four teams all suffering losses. Notre Dame fell to Waunakee and drops to third this week, while Pewaukee's one-point loss to Brookfield Central only dropped the Pirates one spot to fourth. Preseason number one Onalaska lost for a second time, this one a shocker to Medford, and the Hilltoppers drop all the way out of the rankings this week. West Salem was upset by Tomah, with the Panthers tumbling from second to ninth, one spot behind the Timberwolves of Tomah. West Bend East debuts this week at number six. Grafton fell to Port Washington but remains in the rankings at number ten ahead of their Thursday Night Throwdown matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Division 4

What was gong to happen in Division 4? Catholic Memorial lost a second game, this time a running clock shutout to Marquette, and opened the door for someone else to come in. However, the coaches voted CMH number one again this week in a mild surprise. Lodi is second and gained several first place votes. At the bottom of the rankings, Saint Croix Central, Prescott, and Berlin are all new, replacing Racine St. Catherine's, Lake Mills, and Edgewood. That gives the Middle Border Conference four teams in the Division 4 rankings, plus Osceola and Somerset receiving some votes while Rice Lake garnered a few votes in Division 3 as well.

Division 5

Columbus is a unanimous number one team in Division 5 this week, though Prairie du Chien managed to leap-frog Brodhead/Juda to number two. Those two teams will meet up in a huge SWC showdown later this year. Amherst also drops a couple spots following a loss to Two Rivers last week.

Division 6

Stratford fell to rival Edgar in convincing fashion last week, and the Tigers also fell out of the top spot in the poll as a result, dropping to fourth. Coming off a dominating win over Racine St. Catherine's, Kenosha St. Joseph ascends to the number one position in Division 6 this week. Darlington drops just one spot to fifth after a close loss to Prairie du Chien.

Division 7

There wasn't much change in the Division 7 rankings this week, where Cashton is on top followed by Scenic Bluffs rival Bangor. There was some minor shuffling further down the rankings, with Assumption dropping out and Hurley moving into the poll.

8-Player

Two-time defending state champion Newman Catholic falling to Three Lakes/Phelps right out of the gates, ending the Cardinals' 29-game winning streak, certainly shook up the 8-player voting this week. Several teams received first place votes, but it was Thorp who moves up from number two last week to the top spot this week. Gilman slides up a spot to second, while Three Lakes/Phelps kicks its way into the rankings at number three this week. Newman Catholic slides from first to fifth. Siren also enters the poll at number ten, as Oakfield and Belmont drop out.
