Athlete of the Week Nominees: October 9-15

Alayna Deprez, Luxemburg-Casco

Deprez and the Luxemburg-Casco girls volleyball team finished off the regular season with a home tournament championship before heading into post season play this week. Before the tournament, the sophomore setter had 67 assists, 19 digs, five kills and three aces as the Spartans split a pair of North Eastern Conference matchups during the week. Deprez then led Luxemburg-Casco to a 5-0 weekend with wins over Oconto, Appleton East, Sheboygan Falls, Pewaukee and Bay Port. She accumulated 104 assists, 25 digs, four kills and an ace as she helped the team to a title.

Jayden Gordon, Kenosha St. Joseph

Gordon was unstoppable as the Kenosha St. Joseph football team beat Racine Lutheran 49-7 and claimed the Metro Classic Conference title and a perfect 9-0 regular season record. The senior rusher carried the ball 22 times for 331 yards and five scores in the victory, adding four tackles on defense. On the regular season Gordon rushed for 1,757 yards and 31 touchdowns, averaging an insane 17.1 yards per rush.

Marah Gruen, Royall

Gruen had herself a special week for Royall athletics. The senior multi-sport athlete helped lead the Royall girls volleyball team to a pair of conference wins over Wonewoc-Center and Bangor by tallying 47 kills, 29 digs, six aces, three blocks and three assists in the two matches. She was a big reason why Royall finished 14-0 and won the Scenic Bluffs Conference title. The same week that Gruen won a girls volleyball title, she went on to win a conference championship in cross country. Gruen won the Scenic Bluffs Conference cross country meet by posting a time of 20 minutes and 29 seconds, winning two conference titles in the span of one week.

Belle Kongschaug, Colfax/Elk Mound

Kongshaug is just a sophomore and already has a state runner-up and championship in girls golf. She took home medalist honors this past week in Division 2 while competing at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona. The sophomore golfer shot a +13, 157 to win it. Kongschaug shot a first round 80 and second round 77 to finish with a final score of 157. She finished one stroke better than the second place finisher.

Angela Wang, University School

Wang also finished as a runner-up last year at the State Tournament in just her freshman season. The sensational sophomore claimed glory this past week as she won the WIAA Division 2 State singles championship. Wang beat top-seeded Lily Olson of Edgewood in the finals 6-1, 6-3. In the three matches leading up to the title match, Wang dropped just one set en route to her state title.
