Athlete of the Week Nominees: January 29 - February 4

Max Breitenbach, Kohler

The Kohler boys basketball team improved to 17-0 on the season with a pair of wins this past weekend and two Breitenbach double-doubles. The Blue Bombers first knocked off Saint Mary Catholic 82-72 on Tuesday as the 6'2" junior wing had 17 points and 12 rebounds. He added five assists, two blocks, and two steals in the game. Breitenbach then had 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-50 win over Oostburg, adding four steals and three assists. Breitenbach is a having a solid junior campaign averaging 15.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, over two assists and steals, and one block per game.

Makena Christian, Hartford

Christian has been exceptional as she has led the Hartford girls basketball team to an 18-2 record and a place atop the North Shore standings. The Orioles did something that hasn't been done in over 30 games last week, gave Homestead a conference loss. Christian led the way with 25 points, ten rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block in the 56-55 thriller of a win (thanks to a Bella Klages game-winner with 3 seconds left). Christian, who holds multiple Division 1 offers, then had 26 points, ten rebounds, and four steals in Hartford's 82-52 victory over Port Washington.

Mick Marlow, Chippewa Falls

Marlow was not letting anything through from his goalie position this past week as he had two shutouts for the Big Rivers leading Chippewa Falls boys hockey team. The senior goalie allowed no goals and had 15 saves in the Cardinals 7-0 win over Eau Claire North. He then had 18 saves in a 9-0 shutout of Menomonie. Marlow, who played his first three seasons at Mahtomedi before a family move to Chippewa Falls, has not allowed a goal in the past four games. He has six shutouts on the season.

Madilyn Thomson, Lena

Thomson and the Lena girls basketball team is now 20-0 after two wins last week, one of just six undefeated teams in the state. Thomson is a big reason why. The 5'10" sophomore stuffed the stat sheet in a 67-45 win over Oneida Nation. She finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Thomson then had 17 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists in a 59-24 victory over Gillett. The Wildcats 20 game win streak is tied for the longest in the state with regards to active streaks.

Logan Zahour, Cedarburg

Cedarburg picked up two huge North Shore Conference wins this past week as Zahour was impressive throughout. The Bulldogs took down Whitefish Bay 46-36 to start the week as Zahour recorded his second double-double of the season. He finished with 11 point and 10 rebounds. The junior guard followed his double-double up with a huge performance as Cedarburg handed Nicolet its first conference loss by a score of 79-74. Zahour finished with a game high 24 points and added eight rebounds.
