Athlete of the Week Nominees: February 19-25

Abby Cole, Winnebago Lutheran

Cole had a week to remember as she helped lead the Winnebago Lutheran girls basketball team to a regional title. The senior wing was a monster on the glass in the two games. She first had 18 points and 22 rebounds in a 60-50 regional semifinal win over Cedar Grove-Belgium. She added six assists, three steals, and a block while shooting seven of seventeen from the field. Cole followed up one double-double with another in the Viking's 55-49 win over Random Lake in the regional finals. She finished with 24 points and 26 rebounds, adding four assists, four steals, and two blocks. With her huge rebounding numbers, Cole surpassed 1,000 rebounds in her career, a milestone she surpassed in points earlier in the year.

Koy Hopke, Amery

Hopke, like his fellow nominees this week, wrestled his way to a fourth straight state championship this past weekend. The Minnesota wrestling commit won via fall in the championship bout of 285-pound weight class of Division 2 over Freedom's Hunter Vander Heiden. Hopke finished the season 38-2 and is the 29th wrestler to win four gold balls in his prep career. Hopke had competed and won state titles in the 220-pound weight class the previous three seasons.

Dawson Johnson, Cumberland

Johnson completed a historic high school wrestling career this past weekend at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament. The Minnesota commit became the 27th wrestler in state history to win four straight state championships. Johnson captured gold in the 138-pound class in Division 3 this past weekend, winning the championship bout over Iowa-Grant/Highland's Elliott Biba by a 7-2 decision. Johnson has won previous titles at 126 pounds in 2023, 120 pounds in 2022, and 106 pounds in 2021. He finished this season with a perfect 58-0 record.

Hailie Krueger, New London

Krueger captured gold at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament for the third straight season this past weekend. The junior wrestler defeated Lomira's Kara Kuge in the finals of the 152-pound weight class by a 7-3 decision. Krueger won titles in the 145-pound weight class in both 2022 and 2023. For the year, she finished with an unblemished record of 42-0.

Connor Mirasola, West Bend West

Mirasola became the 28th wrestler in prep history and the third of the weekend to win his fourth straight state championship. He captured gold in the 190-pound weight class in Division 1 after winning at 195 in 2023, 182 in 2022, and 170 in 2021. Though Mirasola's final bout of his prep career did not go the way he's preferred, he did win gold. Squaring off with Hudson's Ethan Winkelman in the finals, Mirasola was granted the win via injury default to Winkelman early in the match. Mirasola, a Penn State commit, finished his year 51-1.
