Whitefish Bay High School left-hander Kevin James was selected in the ninth round of the First-Year Player Draft in June by Tampa Bay and pondered whether to sign or play baseball at Boston College.
On Monday James received a $625,000 bonus to forgo his scholarship to Boston College.
James was drafted mainly due to his stellar pitching skills. The Whitefish Bay ace lefty finished with a 7-3 record and an impressive 0.77 ERA in 14 appearances. He tossed three complete games and had four saves with 124 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings.
