8:00 p.m. -- Adam Schulz and Kyle Pachowitz drew back-to-back walks with two outs and Nick Stoltz reached base on an infield error. Matt Petritis hit a ball that bounced over the left-field fence for a ground-rule double and a 9-2 Muskego lead. T.J. Anderson then chased New Holstein starter parker Schrage with a two-run single to extend the lead to 11-2. New Holstein brought in Eric Weber in relief and Nick McCormack promptly greeted him with an RBI single to right for a 12-2 lead. The game was called on the 10-run mercy rule after five innings.





7:46 p.m. -- Sam Hammer lives up to his name for Muskego. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior pinch hits for Kevin Schoenbach and blasts a double off the right-center field fence, a 365-foot drive. After moving to third on a strikeout-throw to first base play, Hammer scored on a wild pitch for a 7-2 Muskego lead.



7:44 -- Parker Schrage retired Muskego first baseman for the first time tonight on a ground ball to third base. Robinson hit a grand slam in the first and doubled and scored in the third inning.



7:41 p.m. --
Cole Borek retires New Holstein in order for the second straight inning, the third out of the inning coming on a strong throw to first base by third baseman Kevin Schoenbach.



FOURTH INNING --
Both pitchers -- Muskego's Cole Borek and New Holstein's Parker Schrage -- threw stellar innings, each retiring all three batters in order.



After four innings: Muskego 6, New Holstein 2.



THIRD INNING -- New Holstein began to chip away at Muskego's lead, pulling within 5-2 on Codi Thede's two-out single to right with the bases loaded. The Huskies loaded the bases with one out on singles by Shane Olig, Cody Klapperich and Parker Schrage. One out later, Thede delivered his 22nd and 23rd RBI of the season.



Muskego got one run back on Mike Robinson's double and a center to center by Wes Smith. The Warriors loaded the bases on back-to-back New Holstein errors. But pitcher Parker Schrage got out of the inning getting a called third strike on Nick Stoltz.



After three innings: Muskego 6, New Holstein 2.



SECOND INNING --
Eric Weber doubled into the left-field corner leading off for the Huskies. Two outs later, Zach Lefeber was hit by a pitch but Chris Lefeber popped out to second to end the threat.



Muskego increased its lead to 5-1 when Kyle Pachowitz led off with a single to left, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch and then scored when Matt Petritis grounded out to the pitcher. 



After two innings: Muskego 5, New Holstein 0.



FIRST INNING -- 
First pitch was 6:42.

Muskego pitcher Cole Borek retired New Holstein in order.



The Warriors then jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when cleanup hitter Mike Robinson blasted a grand slam off the scoreboard in left center field. That followed a lead-off walk to Matt Petritis back-to-back singles by T.J. Anderson and Nick McCormick.



After first inning: Muskego 4, New Holstein 0



The final quarterfinal game of the 45th annual WIAA summer baseball state tournament is 5 minutes away from the first pitch with the lineups being announced for New Holstein (23-4) and Muskego (23-9) at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point.



New Holstein is making its membership-leading 17th appearance in the State Summer Baseball Tournament and its third in a row. The Huskies won the State title in 1965 and have finished runner-up in 1974, 1986 and 2007. They won the Plymouth Sectional with a 12-2 win victory over Sheboygan Falls. The Huskies were the co-champions of the Eastern Wisconsin Conference.

Muskego is making its fourth state tournament appearance and first since 2002 when the Warriors' finished as runner-up. Muskego entered the playoffs having lost four of its last five games, and won both sectional games in extra innings. It took Muskego 10 innings to beat Whitnall 15-13 and win the Waukesha West Sectional. The Warriors were the co-champions in the Greater Metro Conference this season.Sophomore pitcher Cole Borek is 11-1 with a 1.97 earned run average. He has 73 strikeouts and 26 walks in 78 innings.



The winner will meet Arrowhead (32-5) which beat West Bend West 6-4 in eight innings on Brian Crook's two-out walk-off home run.

Arrowhead, which has a seven-game winning streak, will meet the winner of the final game of the day -- New Holstein (23-4) and Muskego (23-9) in a state semifinal game on Thursday. The final game of the day is expected to start at 6:40 p.m.



5:53 p.m. --
Andrew Bauer reached base with two outs on a hit by pitch. That set the stage for Brian Crook, who slammed his seventh home run of the season over the left-field fence for the walk-off game-winning hit. Crook, who wears uniform No. 7, finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He also was a triple short of hitting for the cycle.



5:50 p.m. --
Entering the bottom of the eighth, the teams have combined to leave 22 baserunners -- 12 for West Bend West and 10 for Arrowhead.



EIGHTH INNING --
Shane Hayes blasted a 345-foot drive off the left-center field fence for a two-out double to put a runner in scoring position for West Bend West. Arguably the hardest hit ball of the day, it forced Arrowhead to intentionally walk Ryan Schilter to put runners on first and second wtih two outs.



5:47 p.m. -- Arrowhead reliever Andrew Bauer answered the challenge by striking out Spartans' cleanup hitter Eric DuCharme to end the threat.





SEVENTH INNING --
B.J. Albrecht executes his second successful squeeze bunt, driving in Eric DuCharme with one out to give West Bend West a 4-3 lead. With one out, DuCharme reached base on a smash off the first baseman's glove and moved to second on an error. Matt Wolf singled to second base to move DuCharme to third where Albrecht delivered the key sacrifice.



Arrowhead, though, wasn't finished yet. Brian Crook doubled to right field and moved to third on a one-out ground ball.  Ryan Passaglia fouled off a pair of pitches and worked the count to 3-2 against West reliever John Nick before drawing ball four. That put runners on the corners and brought up Matt Mayoras, who had one hit in three at bats today.



Mayoras lined a 1-0 pitch to left field to score Crook and tie the game at 4-4. It also moved Passaglia to third base. That brought up Josh Henkel who fouled out to first base on the first pitch to force extra innings.



After seven innings: West Bend West 4, Arrowhead 4.

5:30 p.m. --
The skies have cleared up setting the stage for a beautiful evening for baseball and the final quarterfinal game of the day. Up next is New Holstein (23-4) against Muskego (23-9).



SIXTH INNING --
The Spartans threatened to regain the lead when West lead-off batter Blake Wiskirchen drew a walk and Danny Mueller reached on an error. But Shane Hayes missed on a squeeze bunt attempt and pinch runner Brandon Roman was picked off third. Hayes then struck out to end the inning.



Arrowhead pitcher Jordan Paszek tried to get something going in the bottom of the sixth with a smash in the hole at shortstop. But shortstop Danny Mueller gunned a throw to first to nip Paszek by a hair.



Chris Pendergast lined a two-out single to left to try to jump-start a rally for the Warhawks. Mueller squelched the rally throwing out Andrew Bauer on a grounder to short to end the inning.



After six innings: West Bend West 3, Arrowhead 3. 



5:06 p.m. -- Arrowhead coach Tim O'Driscoll is the winningest coach in WIAA state baseball history with a 739-328 mark in 35 seasons.



FIFTH INNING --
Eric DuCharme drew a lead-off walk for West Bend West but was stranded as the next three batters were retired in order.



You can feel how the momentum has shifted to Arrowhead. Brian Crook led off the fifth for the Warhawks with a single to left and was moved to second by a sacrifice by cleanup hitter Karl Sprung. Connor Harmann drew a walk to put runners at first and second with one out.



West Bend West reliever John Nick settled down, though, and got Ryan Passaglia on a called third strike and retired Matt Mayoras on a fly ball to center field.



After five innings: West Bend West 3, Arrowhead 3.



4:49 p.m. -- A few dark clouds are hovering over Bukolt Park but no rain is expected until tomorrow.



The grandstands are beginning to fill up as fans for New Holstein and Muskego, who will meet in the final quarterfinal game of the day, are arriving. The Marquette baseball team has also returned to watch at least game three.



FOURTH INNING --
West Bend West threatened to pad its 3-0 when Davis Yach singled and Shane Hayes reached base on a wild pitch after striking out. But Ryan Schilter grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.



Arrowhead put together its best inning of the game with a lead-off single by Karl Sprung, a two-out single to left by Matt Mayoras and a walk to Josh Henkel. Jordan Paszek then delievered a two-run single down the left-field line to pull Arrowhead within 3-2 and
Chris Pendergast followed with an RBI double for a 3-3 tie.



John Nick relieved Ryan Schilter and induced Andrew Bauer to fly out to center field for the third out.



After four innings: West Bend West 3, Arrowhead 3.



THIRD INNING --
West Bend West was retired in order for the first time today. Arrowhead lefty Jordan Paszek has now retired four batters in a row and seven of the last eight he has faced.



Arrowhead got singles from Josh Henkel and Andrew Bauer, its first two hits of the game. But the Warhawks stranded both runners when West Bend West pitcher Ryan Schilter induced Brian Crook to fly out to center field for the third out.



After three innings: West Bend West 3, Arrowhead 0.

 

4:13 p.m. -- West is riding an 11-game winning streak while Arrowhead has won its last six straight games.



SECOND INNING -- West Bend West got a two-out single. But Arrowhead pitcher Jordan Paszek struck out the side to avoid any damage.



Arrowhead went down in order in its half of the inning.



After two innings: West Bend West 3, Arrowhead 0.


 

FIRST INNING -- Lead-off hitter Danny Mueller blasted a solo home run on a 2-1 pitch to give West Bend West a quick 1-0 lead. The Spartans added two more runs in the first inning on a suicide squeeze by B.J. Albrecht and a bases-loaded walk to Blak Wiskirchen. West had a 17-minute at bat and left the bases loaded.



Chris Pendergast drew a lead-off for Arrowhead but West pitcher Ryan Schilter retired the next three batters in order.

Arrowhead is back at State for the seventh time and for the first time since the Warhawks finished runner-up in 2006. The Warhawks won the State title in 1979 and have additional runner-up finishes in 1973 and 1975. Arrowhead won the Classic Eight Conference title and advanced to state after winning the Germantown Sectional with a 10-0, six-inning victory over Brookfield East.



The Warhawks are led by junior first baseman Brian Crook, who has a team-best .489 batting average to go with 42 runs, six home runs and 34 RBI and junior pitcher Jordan Paszek, who has an 11-1 pitching record with a 1.86 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 60 innings.



West Bend West is making its 10th appearance at the State Tournament and its fifth in the last six seasons. The Spartans won State titles in 1972, 1984 and 2007, and added a runner-up finish in 1981. They finished runner-up in the North Shore Conference this year and qualified through the sectional they hosted with a 11-0 blanking of West Bend East in the final.



The Spartans are led by senior right-handed pitcher Ryan Schilter: He is batting a team-best .514 batting average, eight homers and 46 RBI and is 4-0 as a pitcher.





Game three of the 45th annual WIAA summer baseball state tournament is 5 minutes away from the first pitch with the lineups being announced for West Bend West (26-5) and Arrowhead (31-5) in a quarterfinal matchup at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point at 3:30 p.m.
