Summer Baseball Sectional Field Set

The 2009 Summer Baseball season has reached the round of 32 with sectionals beginning Friday morning. Here is a brief wrap-up of Tuesday's regional final games, broken down by sectional. A complete list of boxscores in the Milwaukee Area can be found here. For the LaCrosse region, check here.



Arcadia Sectional



G-E-T won a 12-inning, come-from-behind thriller over Melrose-Mindoro to advance to the sectional semifinals. The Redmen will battle Alma, who disposed of Blair-Taylor 8-6. Arcadia upset home Whitehall 9-6 to earn the right to play host at its sectional. The Raiders will face top-seeded West Salem, who advanced with a 5-0 win over Cochrane-Fountain City.



Plymouth Sectional



All four top seeds advanced to sectional play, including host Plymouth with a 4-2 win over Kiel. Two Rivers scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to push Howards Grove into extras and eventually steal the win from the Tigers. Sheboygan Falls also tallied a 6-5 victory over Sheboygan Area Lutheran/Kohler and No. 1 seed New Holstein cruised to a 6-0 shutout of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.



West Bend West Sectional



Oostburg mercy-ruled Random Lake, 12-1, thanks to a 6-run third inning. Next up for the Flying Dutchmen will be West Bend West, who received a bye into its host sectional semifinal. Kewaskum took advantage of a couple Cougar miscues to beat Campbellsport 4-2, and West Bend East held CG-B in check with a 10-0 win.



Whitefish Bay Sectional



Port Washington avenged two earlier season losses to Cedarburg, as the sixth-seeded Pirates pushed one across in the top of the seventh en route to a 5-4 victory. Sectional host Whitefish Bay needed five runs in the bottom of the seventh to squeak past seventh-seed Shorewood, 7-6. Homestead disposed of Brown Deer 11-1 and will face top-seeded Nicolet in the semis, as the Knights beat Grafton 6-3.



Germantown Sectional



Close games marked Tuesday's regional finals in the Germantown Sectional. Arrowhead staved off a charged Hamilton team 3-2, as the Warhawk pitching brigade combined for 10 strikeouts. Menomonee Falls took out the Owls of Slinger 7-6, while Brookfield East scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take out Germantown. Brookfield Central put five runs across in the second and never looked back, walking to a 9-4 victory over Pewaukee.



Waukesha West Sectional



Top seeded Muskego's Adam Schultz went 3-for-3 with five RBI, as the Warriors proved too much for Waukesha North, beating the Northstars 11-1 in six innings. Whitnall scored all 14 of its runs in the second and third inning as it blew out Kettle Moraine 14-6. Mukwonago overcame a 3-0 deficit after the first inning to beat Waukesha South 8-5, and fifth-seeded Waukesha West upset Catholic Memorial 8-3.



New Berlin West Sectional



New Berlin West and Marquette both walked through their regional final games, beating Tosa West 10-0 and West Allis Central 10-3, respectively. The Vikings' Ben Falls added three RBI to his compete game, while Marquette's Jack Archie went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and struck out four on the mound. The West Allis Hale surprised the Popes, as the sixth-seeded Huskies upset Pius XI 3-0. New Berlin Eisenhower's Alex McRae earned a 2-1 complete game victory over Tosa East, thanks to a pair of runs in the seventh.



South Milwaukee Sectional



Top-seeded Oak Creek scored 12 runs in the second inning alone and blitzed St. Francis 15-3; the Knights' hurlers combined to strike out 12 Mariners in five innings. South Milwaukee's Luke Maldanio and Alexis Rios each hit a homerun, but it wasn't enough as Franklin took down the Rockets 6-5. Cudahy survived a tight one against Greenfield 4-3, and Greendale beat St. Thomas More for the third time in four games, 12-0.
