"Above The Net" Week 2

This week's profiles are Waukesha West Seniors, Setter Danny Jonas and Libero Dan Simon.  Next week for boy's we will feature Fort Atkinson Seniors Andrew Reineck and Anthony Galston.

Favorite subject: Math

Position: Setter

Other sports: Tennis

I got my start in Volleyball: "When watching my older brother play volleyball when he was first starting to play in 5th and 6th grade. Going to his practices really allowed me to gain interest in the sport."

I wish I could play: Basketball

Volleyball highlights: I am a three year varsity player with two years of being named captain. Second team Classic 8 all conference setter the previous volleyball season.

2009 team stats: We beat Madison East in our regional final, and then lost to Kettle Moraine in the sectional semi-final. We are returning 6 out of 7 starters, as well as four all conference members.

Other sports highlights: For tennis I am the number three varsity singles player and gained a 3rd place finish in the Classic 8 conference.

This and that: Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, STAND, Coloring Book Club

I like playing Volleyball because: "It gives me an opportunity to participate in a sport that not only garnishes great players but also the team atmosphere that goes along with that."

Team bonding moments: "Going to Culvers after every match and team dinners."

Volleyball superstitions: "I must wear white mid socks and I have to have an energy drink before every match."

Talent I wish I had: Hit 10ft Line.

Hobbies: Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball, Call of Duty 5, Basketball, Ping Pong

Post-high school plans: Attend UW-Madison, but I am unsure what my major is going to be at the moment.

Career goal: Hold a successful job while having a loving family.

Outlook on life: "Life is hard, but it s harder if your stupid"

I got my start in Volleyball: When I was 11 playing for North Shore 13s

I wish I could play: Front row

Volleyball highlights: Play club for North Shore Milwaukee. Varsity starter since freshman year. Team defensive player of the year freshman year. Sectional runner up as a sophomore. Team captain junior and senior seasons. Honorable Mention All State, All Area, and First Team All Conference as a junior.

2009 team stats: 5-2 in Conference. 2nd place at the conference tournament. Lost to Kettle Moraine in the Sectional Semis.

Other sports highlights: Winning the WIBL three point shootout in fifth grade.

This and that: Student Council 3 years. DECA four years. Newspaper. STAND president.

I like playing Volleyball because: You meet a lot of women.

Team bonding moments: team breakfasts before tournaments and culvers after every match. Superfanning girls games. Team dinners night before matches.

I drive: A 2007 Toyota Corolla. However I drove a 1992 Honda Accord until a couple weeks ago and that was my baby. I was sad to say goodbye to old faithful.

I like Waukesha West High School because: of the friends I ve made and the great times I ve had with volleyball

On my IPod: Right now I m jamming to Kings of Leon, Rage Against the Machine, Dave Matthews Band, and The Script.

Talent I wish I had: Unwrapping starburst wrappers in my mouth

Hobbies: Ping Pong, beach volleyball, traveling, reading, snuggies!

Post-high school plans: Play Volleyball at either Lindenwood or Clarke. Study Pre-Med or Physical Therapy
