Favorite Sport: “I would say football because I was raised in a family where football is a big part of what we do. My father (Jerry) is the coach, and all three of my brothers played football. I’m also most successful in football so I tend to like that sport the best.”

Best Part of High School Sports: “Getting the opportunity to play with your friends. Growing up together and going to school together, it’s a special bond you form competing alongside your best friends. That is pretty special. Also the fact you play for your community. We have a lot of pride in athletics at Edgar. The community really supports you in everything you do.”

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: “For sure it was winning the state championship in football my senior year. We made a pact following my junior year that we didn’t care for the taste of a loss in the state title game. We made a pact to return to Madison and play in the state championship and have things turn out differently. We came together and played well for the majority of the season. Then, we played a great game in the state finals to cap off a very, very memorable season.”

Best Advice Received from High School Coach: “I would say one of the biggest things I learned was to not be afraid of going for your goals. Coming from such a small town, some felt I wouldn’t get the chance to make it at the Division I level. But I had enough people encouraging me and helping me and giving me confidence that I was able to achieve a Division I scholarship in football. I wouldn’t have been able to do that without coaches and teammates encouraging me to achieve that goal.”

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: “The fact you are always doing something, year round. Other athletes might play AAU basketball or a club sport, but I think the bond you get with your classmates and teammates is special from playing in all three sports. Playing all three sports is fun and keeps you involved. Each sport also helps you out with the other sport. It helps you become a better all-around athlete.”

Toughest Part of Playing Three Sports: “Coming off one season and then basically picking up another season within a few days. Our football season ended on a Thursday and basketball practice started the next Monday. We were still beat up from football so that was a hard thing. You never really get time to relax. It does seem tiresome at that point.”
