Two State champions were crowned Saturday afternoon at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, each earning this week's Splash of the Week honors. The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls and the  University School of Milwaukee boys teams earned their second respective State titles, the Fusion's coming consecutively and the Wildcats' coming after a four-year hiatus.

The St. Croix Valley Fusion, a co-op of schools in the greater River Falls area, put 53 shots on goal in their State Semifinal matchup against the University School of Milwaukee girls Friday morning en route to a 2-0 victory. Saturday, St. Croix Valley scored a pair of third period goals against the newly-formed Bay Area Ice Bears squad en route to a 5-2 victory and its second straight State Championship.

The University School of Milwaukee boys pulled off an impressive run en route to its second State title and first since 2006, defeating the top three ranked teams in the state. In arguably the most exciting Quarterfinal of the tournament Thursday evening, USM needed overtime to push the game-winning goal past #3 Stoughton, scored the go-ahead goal with less than three minutes to go against #2 Notre Dame, and jumped out to a three-goal lead against #1 Wausau West in the final and hung on for a 5-3 State Championship victory for the Wildcats.

Honorable Mention

Thorp Boys Basketball - The Cardinals held top-seeded Fall Creek to just two third-quarter points Saturday in their Division 3 regional final game and deflated the Crickets' chances of making a return trip to the Kohl Center this season. Junior Jace Kobylarczyk scored a game-high 17 points, while senior Drew Ginter and junior Connor Olejniczak added 13 and 11 points apiece. The Cardinals will face Ladysmith Friday at Chippewa Falls in the Sectional Semifinals.

Nicole Griffin, Milwaukee Vincent Girls Basketball: In Wednesday's Milwaukee City Gold conference championship against King, the 6'6" Oklahoma recruit came up huge, recording 34 points on 14-for-14 shooting. Griffin's Vikings sealed their first outright City Conference championship with the 81-70 victory over crosstown rival King and will take their #1 seed into the Regional Finals, hosting the Arrowhead/Hamilton winner Saturday as they search for their fourth straight State Championship.

Wisconsin Rapids, Oconto Falls & Coleman Wrestling: Winners of respective team State Championships, Rapids, Oconto Falls and Coleman all owned impressive season records and scored even more impressive results in the Finals this Saturday at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin Rapids beat Milton 52-17 to take Division 1, Oconto Falls beat Pewaukee 38-26 to take home honors in Division 2, while Coleman pounced on Mineral Point 41-19 to earn gold in Division 3. The three schools also combined for a 59-5 overall record in dual matches this season.
