The Milwaukee City conference is known for producing some strong sprinters, and Milwaukee Bradley Tech's Dezerea Bryant can now officially be added to that list. The junior currently holds the top times in a pair of girls events as the indoor track season draws to a close.

Bryant was strides ahead of the competition in the Week 2 honor roll, after posting a time of 6.99 in the 55-meter dash and 24.60 in the 200-meter dash at the Lake Michigan Invitational in Milwaukee. Yet at the MPS City Conference Indoor Championships held last Wednsday, Bryant broke her own season bests by posting times of 6.95 in the 55-meter dash and 24.46 in the 200-meter dash.

Comparing Bryant's times to the current state records, she is just 0.15 behind a pair of fellow City Conference standouts who posted 6.80 55m times in 1987 and 1992. Bryant's 200m mark is just 0.44 seconds behind Andrea Lee from Riverside, who registered a 24.02 mark in 1988.

Honorable Mention

Zak Forray, Waterford: In what quickly became a blowout victory for the Wolverines, Forray pitched all five innings recording 12 strikeouts and three walks en route to the young baseball season's first no-hitter. Forray helped his case on offense as well, going 1-for-2 from the plate with a homerun and 2 RBI in the 12-0 victory over East Troy.

Matt Widule, Menomonie Falls: The state record for the 55 High Hurdles might only be a couple years old, but Menomonie Falls senior Matt Widule came oh-so-close to breaking the 7.56 mark set by West Allis Central's Jeff Maleski in 2008. Widlue, a senior, came within four-hundredths of a second and finished with a 7.60 mark at the Madison West relays Saturday.

La Crosse Central softball: The Red Raiders traveled to the sunshine state to take on a trio of Ohio opponents at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando last week and came home with a solid 2-1 record. Central had a tough opener to Dublin Coffman in a low-scoring 3-2 loss Wednesday, then the bats came alive as the Red Raiders recorded 15-2 and 19-2 victories over Bellbrook and Geauga on Thursday and Friday.
