In what came down to a three-team race in for the W-TFA Indoor State Championships this past weekend at Kachel Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-Whitewater, the Green Bay Preble Boys Track Team surged to the title thanks to nine top-10 finishes. And along with the meet trophy comes this week's WSN Splash of the Week.

In a virtual tie with Racine Park and Germantown for much of the meet, Preble used points from seven different events to win the prestigious title. Greg Parent alone was a star in the field events, as he won the Long Jump competition with an impressive 21-1.75 mark and finished fourth in the High Jump with a 6-2. Parent also finished with a 7.93 finals mark in the 55 High Hurdles, good enough for fifth place points.

Teammates Jamel Robertson came in fifth in the Triple Jump with a 42-5.5 leap and thrower Mike Cullen launched the shot put 53-4 for another fifth place finish for the Hornets, while the 4x400 relay team's top time of 3:31.44 was just over a second better than Park to pick up another event victory for Preble. The Hornets' 39 points were just two better than second place Racine Park and five better than third place Germantown.

Honorable Mention

Bradley Tech Girls Track: The Knights ran away with the WTFA Indoor team title Saturday quite literally by posting strong times in the sprinting events. Dezerea Bryant and Tahje Wittley came in one-two in the 55 Meter Dash, while Elexis Fuller-Stewart had the fastest time in the 55 Meter High Hurdles. Tiffany Matthews also posted the third best time in the 800 Meter run, while the 4x400 Meter Relay torched the competition, bettering second place by over 15 seconds.

Kimberly Baseball: The Papermakers started the year off on a positive note, going 3-1 last week to open their 2010 campaign. Monday, Kimberly shut out Freedom 10-0 before suffering a close 4-3 loss to Winneconne on Friday. The defending Fox Valley Association champs then responded with a set of 5-4 and 11-1 wins over top-ranked Wilmot, avenging last season's State quarterfinal loss at the hands of the Panthers.

Stratford Softball: The Tigers must like playing in Rocket softball territory as they have already raced to a 4-0 record--all four wins coming on fields at high schools with that nickname. Thursday, Stratford opened the season with a 5-4 victory at Spencer, then reeled off three straight victories to win the New Lisbon Invitational Saturday. The Tigers beat the host school 11-7, Athens 12-1 and survived a 6-run 7th inning from Thorp to eke out a 10-9 win over the Cardinals.
