Coaches release 2010 boys volleyball All-State Teams

The Wisconsin boys volleyball coaches released their 2010 All-State awards Wednesday. Catholic Memorial took several top honors, including the Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and another First Team nominee. Wauwatosa East had four total honorees-- a Second Team nominee as well as three Honorable Mention players.

Here is the full list of teams, in alphabetical order by school, as well as the write-ups about the P.O.Y. and C.O.Y awards.

Player of the Year
Trevor Novotny, Jr., OH, Catholic Memorial

Trevor Novotny, a junior outside hitter from Catholic Memorial, has been named 2010 Boys Volleyball Player of the Year in voting done by Wisconsin’s boys’ volleyball coaches. Novotny has been a starter since his freshman year and has led Catholic Memorial to three straight Classic Eight conference titles, going 7-0 in the conference in 2010. He has earned 1st team all-conference his sophomore year and honorable mention his freshman year and has had another strong season this year, leading Catholic Memorial in kills with 392 with an outstanding hitting percentage of .388, and also leads in aces with 58. Novotny has not only dominated at the state level but also at the national level. This past summer he received the MVP award for his age group at the National Club Tournament where his team won the championship. Novotny is interested in continuing his volleyball career after high school but has not decided on where he will attend.

Gary Sorenson Coach of the Year
Mike Hanneman, Catholic Memorial

Mike Hanneman from Catholic Memorial is the winner of the Gary Sorensen Coach of the Year award for 2010. Hanneman has been coaching at Catholic Memorial for 10 seasons and in 2010 guided his team to a perfect 7-0 conference and a 28-3 overall record. His team also won the Classic Eight Conference tournament, the Waukesha West Quad, Middleton Invite and Kettle Moraine Invite and was ranked No. 1 in the final boys volleyball coaches poll.
