Name: Makenzie Tellock

School: Mishicot

Grade: Senior

Volleyball Honors: A member of the varsity volleyball team at Mishicot for four seasons … First-team all-league pick in the Olympian Conference as a senior after earning second-team laurels as a sophomore … Missed entire junior season with a torn ACL … Back-row specialist as a freshman and played setter the past three seasons … Helped Mishicot advance to the sectionals as a freshman and sophomore.

Basketball Honors: A four-year varsity letter winner for coach Jeremy Stryhn … Second-team all-league pick in the Olympian as a sophomore when she averaged 10.5 points per game … Nominated for Breakout Athlete of the Year for Manitowoc County as a sophomore … Plays both guard positions for the Indians … Is averaging 15.1 points per game as a senior while leading Mishicot to a 7-2 record.

Track and Field Honors: Enters senior season with three varsity letters at Mishicot … Competes in the 400- and 800-meter relays as well as the 200-meter dash … A member of the regional and sectional 400-meter relay championship team as a sophomore … Also a member of the 400-meter relay team that won a regional title as a junior.

Favorite Sport: “I would say basketball because I like the team atmosphere it gives you. I can be myself when I have the ball so from that standpoint it’s kind of an individual sport. And yet I have four other people to count on when I’m on the floor so it’s a great team sport. I know I can trust my teammates to get things done.”

Best Part of High School Sports: “Playing three sports gives me a chance to be with my teammates. It further develops friendships. Without basketball, I probably wouldn’t be as close to some of the underclassmen as I am.”

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: “Going to state my sophomore year in track was definitely a fun time. Also during my sophomore year, we beat Valders in overtime when Valders was going for the conference title. If Valders had won that game, they would have won the conference title. But we were able to beat them. That was a pretty big highlight.”

Best Advice Received from High School Coach: “Probably just to be myself on and off the court. I have to know how to separate school from basketball. I just need to be who I am. I have to play my game on the court and people follow me through that.”

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: “I like having something to do and I love the people I do it with. After a hard day of school, I can go to a practice or a game and forget about everything. It takes a lot of the stress of the day away.”

Toughest Part of Playing Three Sports: “Finding time to get some of my school work done. Basketball is the worst for that because you have practice, you go home and eat and then you have to do your homework. Sometimes, it’s hard to do homework because you are so tired. It can be difficult at times.”

Favorite Opponents: “Usually, it’s Manitowoc Roncalli because it’s so close to us. You have a ton of people at those games. Some of my friends go to Roncalli so there are some friendships involved. Whenever we play Roncalli, I know there will be two great student sections filling the gym. Chilton is another school I like to compete against. They have really good teams in volleyball and basketball this season.”

Favorite College Team: “I really love Wisconsin football. I had the chance to go to the Rose Bowl. Everything besides the game was good.”

Favorite Professional Teams: Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers.

Cumulative GPA: 3.85.

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against: “I would say Sally Linzmeier of Valders. She is actually on my AAU basketball team so I’ve played with her and against her. She goes hard after every ball and in everything she does. She is a great athlete.”

College Plans: “I am planning on going to Wisconsin to study something in the medical field. As of right now, sports are undecided. I have a lot of people trying to push me to try out for the volleyball team so we’ll see.”

Activities Outside of Sports: Officer in Future Business Leaders of America, active member of Student Senate, member National Honor Society, involved with Francis Creek Youth Sports program, Class Officer at Mishicot High School.

I Find it Relaxing to: “I grab my Ipod and hang out outside. I like to sit in my deer stand for a while. I also like to go up north a lot to our cottage in Shawano.”

Favorite TV shows: The Office, Tosh.0 on Comedy Central.

Favorite Movies: Princess Bride, Hoosiers, Glory Road.

Favorite Subjects: Math.

Favorite Websites: www.youtube.com, www.englishbanana.com.

What’s On Your Ipod: “My basketball play list consists of two songs, “Monster” by Skillett and “Wired To The T” by Dorrough. Otherwise I have a lot of country songs on my Ipod.”

Other Family Members: Father, Glen; mother, Susan; older sister, Lauren.
