February may be the month of love but Schmikla does not give much love to her opponents during her career in February. This marks the third time in her career she has won this award, and the third time she was won the award because of performances in the month of February. Her first NSIC Pitcher of the Week award came in her sophomore campaign as she went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in her first two starts of the season. Last she won the award after tossing a no hitter against Minnesota State on February 26.
Schmikla's weekend started with a relief appearance Friday evening against Colorado State Pueblo. She threw a total of two innings of no hit ball and allowed just one baserunner. On Saturday afternoon she shut down the UC-Colorado Springs bats allowing just two hits over five shutout innings to pick up the complete game win. She did not allow an extra base hit all weekend allowed just six baserunners as opponents hit a miniscule .091.
