WSN Basketball Senior Awards

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards presented by Taco Bell.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 15 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament.

WSN Senior Girls Basketball Awards -- Post Finalists:

Heather Bowe, Regis - Bowe was a First Team All-State pick last year and will be again this season, along with one of the favorites for the Miss Basketball award. She averages 24.5 points per game this season after leading the team to the Division 4 title last year. In two state tourney games last year she averaged 26.5 points and 15.5 rebounds.

Tara Knapstein, New London - Knapstein's stats don't pop out right away, but a big part of that is because of how dominant she and the Bulldogs have been this year in running up a perfect 24-0 record. The defending Division 2 champs turn to Knapstein to fill several roles, as her versatility on both ends of the court makes her incredibly valuable. She averages a team-best 14.1 points per game heading into this week's sectional play. In last year's state tournament she averaged 16.5 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Kylie Moxley, Brillion - Moxley has taken her game to a new level this year, averaging 19.4 points per game (12 more than anyone else on the team) as the Lions are 23-1 heading into sectional play this week. The 6-0 senior led Brillion to an outright title in the tough Olympian Conference this year and a #1 ranking in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches Poll for several weeks.

Jenny Smith, Arrowhead - The Warhawks have somehow flown a bit under the radar this year, but have become a force to be reckoned as the season's progressed. Smith has been outstanding, averaging 17.8 points per game to go along with nearly double-digits in rebounds as Arrowhead tied with Pius for the Classic Eight title.

Avyanna Young, Milwaukee King - Young is big (6-1), athletic and skilled, making her a very tough match-up for opposing post players. She has outstanding speed and is often able to beat her defender down the floor for easy scores and to establish early position. She averages 16.5 points per game this year for the red-hot Generals, who have won 10 straight games (including three during that stretch over rival Milwaukee Vincent) heading into sectional play.
