Athlete of the Week Nominees for September 24-30

Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of September 24-30. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

Liz Bloy, Freedom girls cross country. Bloy won the 5th Annual Papermaker Invitational in Kimberly on Saturday running in a time of 15 minutes, five seconds.

Chris Wedel, McFarland football. Wedel had three touchdowns in the Spartans 47-7 win over Whitewater on Friday night. He had a 72-yard touchdown reception and scored on runs of 35 and 10. Wedel went five for seven on extra points and also recovered a fumble while on defense.

Maggie Smith, Catholic Central girls volleyball. Smith lead the Lady Toppers to the title at their own invitational. She had 35 kills, 33 digs and six aces for Catholic Central on Saturday.

Beata Nelson, Verona/Mount Horeb girls swimming. Nelson had a hand in four relay first place finishes on Saturday at the Cardinal Relays in Middleton. Those included the 8x50 free relay 200 medley, 300 backstroke relay and 400 free relay.

Emmett Stifler, Wausau East boys cross country. Stifler took first place at the City Cross Country Meet in a time of 17 minutes, 1 second. He finished 16 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
