Onalaska's Matt Thomas has been selected as the top senior Shooter as part of the WSN Senior Boys Basketball Awards. He was a unanimous choice by the voting panel.

Thomas will go down as one of the greatest shooters in state history, with few people able to match his ability to put the ball in the basket from long-range. Averaging 28.3 points per game this year, he will attempt to lead the Hilltoppers to a second straight Division 2 state title.

In last year's championship game he was 4 of 7 from deep and 8 of 9 from the free throw line on his way to 30 points. He poured in 50 points in less than three quarters of action in a win over Tomah earlier this year and for 41 in the sectional final victory against Hortonville.

Thomas was the primary offensive threat for the Hilltoppers this season, and other teams knew it, throwing nearly every kind of defense imaginable at him. He beat them with great consistency and did it at a high rate of efficiency. he shot 50.4% from the floor overall, 35.8% from behind the three-point line (59 of 165), and 82.9% from the free throw line.

Finalists for the award were Thomas, M.J. Delmore of Wisconsin Dells, Nate Dodge of East Troy, Ethan Guske of Sheboygan North, and Tim Wagner of G-E-T.

Tyson Kalien of Chippewa Falls won the award last season.
