Conference realignment has been an ongoing discussion within the WIAA and its member schools for decades, but we haven't seen significant movement in over five years.

That could all change under a proposal the WIAA has sent to athletic directors to gauge feedback and generate discussion.

Under the proposal first reported by Craig Hoffman of the Tri-County News, a total of 9 conferences in east and northeast Wisconsin would be effected, with 19 schools changing conference affiliation.

The proposal is in its very early stages, and with so many changes for so many teams, you can be sure there will numerous discussions, debates, objections, and ultimately a final draft that is different from this first submission.

A few highlights of the proposal include:

-- Green Bay East, Green Bay West, Xavier, & Menasha moving to the Bay
-- Wrightstown and Oconto Falls to the Eastern Valley
-- Hortonville to the FVA
-- A new, as yet unnamed, conference of large schools from the Eastern Valley and Eastern Wisconsin along with Winnebago Lutheran
