Black Hawk scored three touchdowns on three straight offensive plays over a span of several minutes at the end of the second quarter and start of the third, and pulled away for a 44-22 victory over Glenwood City for the Division 7 state title.

After Nick Mrdutt went in for a 1 yard score with 54 seconds left in the first half, it appeared the game would head to the break tied at 14. However, a long kickoff return and a couple of passes later and Tyler Peterson hauled in a 24-yard pass from Heath Butler as Black Hawk led 22-14 at intermission.

On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter Tanner Sweeney went 65 yards for a touchdown, and just over 2 minutes later Brett Lovelace hauled in a 65-yard score of his own from Heath Butler, as the Warriors opened up a 38-14 lead.

They scored again in the fourth before a late Glenwood City touchdown provided the 44-22 final score.

Both teams ran up big numbers on the ground, with Black Hawk going for 282 rushing yards, while Glenwood City went for 265.

Tanner Sweeney ran for a team-high 146 yards with 2 touchdowns for Black Hawk, who also got 94 yards and a score from Heath Butler. Butler completed 6 of 7 passes for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Glenwood City was led by Isaac Tuttle, who followed up a 199-yard, 4 touchdown performance in last year's title game with 151 yards and 1 touchdown today.

The title is the first for Black Hawk in program history.
