The Wisconsin Dells Chiefs have been selected as the Week 5 WisSports.net Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team knocked off five-time defending league champion Nekoosa on Friday in a low-scoring defensive battle. The Chiefs were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 5. A total of 4,333 votes were cast, as the Dells' 1,608 votes edged Rice Lake's 1,254.

Nekoosa entered Friday's opening conference game against Wisconsin Dells riding a 19-game league winning streak, capturing at least a share of five straight South Central titles. A 92-yard touchdown pass from Nate Scott to Mason Weber in the second quarter opened the scoring, and despite a decent amount of yards by each team, proved to the only points of the game as the Dells scored a 6-0 upset. Scott finished with 123 passing yards and 75 on the ground, as the Chiefs defense held Nekoosa to just 18 passing yards. Wisconsin Dells forced a pair of Papermakers fumbles and turned back a pair of drives inside the 10-yard line during the game.

The Chiefs take on Wautoma this week, and the Hornets feature the best overall record in the league this season.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 6 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
