Air National Guard Week 7 Player of the Week Nominees:

Jack Horter, Marquette -- Marquette took a significant step towards a second straight outright Greater Metro title on Friday, taking down Brookfield Central 23-0. The Hilltoppers defense was outstanding, led by senior linebacker Jack Horter. He recorded 21 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 4 passes defended, an interception, and a forced fumble. Oh yeah, he also returned a blocked field goal attempt 70 yards for a score.

Mitch Pfeifer, Kettle Moraine -- It appeared Kettle Moraine's playoff hopes would be dashed Friday night, as they trailed Mukwonago 31-7 at halftime in what was virtually a must-win game. The Lasers erupted for 31 second-half points however and shocked Mukwonago 38-31. Two of Pfeiffer's three passing touchdowns came after intermission, as he completed 17 of 25 passes for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns for the game. He added 35 yards on the ground as well.

Andrew Piske, Bangor -- Bangor and Cashton entered Friday's game unbeaten in league play, and the host Cardinals took care of business in a 22-6 victory. All three Bangor touchdowns were scored by running back Andrew Piske, as he totaled 28 carries and 258 yards as well. He also recorded 4 tackles on defense and returned a kick for 24 yards. With the win, Bangor is almost assured of at least a share of the league title, with remaining games against Wonewoc-Center and Brookwood, who are a combined 2-12 this year.

Jason Singer, Darlington -- Since an opening 35-19 loss to Platteville, the Darlington Redbirds have been one of the state's most dominating teams. Going against rival and undefeated Cuba City, the dominance continued. Darlington gained over 400 yards on offense, holding the Cubans to just 156 in a 34-7 victory. Singer carried the ball 14 times for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging 12.9 yards per carry. He also caught a pair of passes for 22 yards, including a touchdown reception.

Jake Sommers, Hortonville -- Hortonville's entrance to the VFA-South has gone very well, thank you, as they're now 4-1 in the league, with the lone loss a one-point defeat at the hands of conference-leading Oshkosh North. Sommers stepped in as the starting quarterback this year, and posted the best game of his career, by far, in a 55-27 win over Marshfield that clinched a playoff berth for the Polar Bears. After Marshfield tied the game at 27 in the 3rd quarter, Sommers threw a pair of touchdown passes in the period, adding another in the 4th as they pulled away for the victory. He finished 16 of 26 for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns.
