Rio used some great defense throughout the game to hold off several Ithaca rallies, and got a complete game shutout from freshman Trajan Prochnow to capture the 2015 WIAA Division 4 Spring Baseball State title 1-0.

Ithaca placed runners in scoring position early and often, but stranded 7 in the first four innings thanks to several baserunning erros and some outstanding Rio defense, including a couple highlight-reel catches from centerfielder Jacob Black.

With the score tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 5th, Black singled home Noah Hollander to put the Vikings on top, and Prochnow mowed through the Bulldogs lineup down the stretch to preserve the victory. Prochnow needed just 10 pitches to complete the 6th and 7th innings, as Ithaca seemed to press after missing out on several early opportunities.

The title is the first in any sport for Rio, while Ithaca's runner-up trophy is the first team trophy in any sport as well.
