Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

Kimberly continues to occupy the #1 position in the WisSports.net Division 1 Coaches Poll, with Arrowhead a near unanimous #2 team. Bay Port did edge slightly ahead of Franklin for the #3 spot this week though. Former #9 Madison La Follette, who went down to Middleton, was the only ranked team to lose last week, as the Lancers fall from the rankings allowed Appleton North to move in at #10. A couple of top ten match-ups highlight this week's schedule: #4 Franklin vs #7 Oak Creek and #1 Kimberly vs #10 Appleton North.

Division 2

After a 35-7 loss to Arrowhead, it was assumed Waukesha West would drop out of the top spot in Week 4. The two questions were who would take over #1, and where would the Wolverines land? The unbeaten Menomonie Mustangs received one more first place vote than the Waunakee Warriors, and it was enough to put the Mustangs in the top spot, with Waunakee right behind. De Pere moved up to 3rd, while Waukesha West landed in the #4 position. Greenfield, unbeaten thus far under WFCA Hall of Fame coach Joe Koch, enters the poll for the first time at #10.

Division 3

The top portion of the Division 3 poll remains unchanged, but there was considerable turnover in the bottom part of the rankings. Catholic Memorial and Rice Lake are still a strong #1 and #2 in the Coaches Poll this week. In fact, there were no changes from #1 to #6. Losses by Waupaca (#7), Reedsburg (#8), Mount Horeb/Barneveld (#9), and Delavan-Darien (#10) shook things up a bit, with just Waupaca holding on to a spot this week at #10. That allowed Berlin, Notre Dame, and Luxemburg-Casco to move into the poll this week.

Division 4

Lodi continues to lock down the top spot in Division 4, just as they have each week this year. Wrightstown is again 2nd, followed by Spencer/Columbus Catholic and Saint Croix Central. Black River Falls makes a move this week, going from 7th to 5th in the voting, nudging ahead of River Valley and Columbus. Little Chute suffered its second loss of the year, and the Mustangs narrowly dropped out of the rankings this week, as Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau moves in at #10.

Division 5

Not much changed in the Division 5 Coaches Poll in Week 4, with Amherst and Arcadia firmly entrenched as the top two teams, respectively. Bonduel, who went down in a running clock to Amherst, was the only ranked team to lose, as the Bears dropped out of the poll, to be replaced by Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.

Division 6

Edgar remained atop the Division 6 rankings this week, though once again, #2 Saint Mary's Springs grabbed a couple first place votes. Athens had been #4, but a 32-6 loss to Assumption caused the Bluejays to tumble all the way out of the poll. Also dropping out are Marathon and Boyceville, who like Athens, suffered their first losses of the year. Regis, Iola-Scandinavia, and Hurley return to the rankings this week.

Division 7

Like several of the other divisions, not much changed this week in the D7 Coaches Poll. Pepin/Alma remains on top, while Catholic Central, Bangor, Ithaca, and Almond-Bancroft round out the top five. Benton/Scales Mound (IL) suffered the only loss last week and was replaced in the rankings by Assumption, who is coming off an impressive 32-6 win over Athens.

8-Man Football

Voting numbers were stronger in the 8-man poll this week, though we're always interested in more participation. The top three remained in place, as Prairie Farm, Green Bay NEW Lutheran, and Luck hold those spots. Abundant Life/Country Day made the leap up from #6 to #4 this week, while Oakfield enters the poll in the #9 position.
