Two-time defending champion Barneveld found itself in trouble, down 9 points with 13:50 left in the second half, but the Eagles closed the game on a 28-8 run to score a 57-46 victory over Clayton and advance to the Division 5 girls basketball state title game.

Despite shooting just 28% in the first half, Clayton held a 27-25 lead at the break, after weathering a 9-0 run by Barneveld to open the game.

In the end, the cousins Whitish were too much for Clayton, as Hannah, a senior, scored a game-high 21 points, while Mia, a junior, added 20.

Kailey Ketz led Clayton with 17 points, while Alison Leslie added 13 and McKenna Larson scored 10.

Assumption never trailed in the game, breaking it open at the end to score a 63-50 victory over Fall River in a WIAA Division 5 girls basketball state semi-final contest.

Both teams were at state last year, and each returned all five starters from a season ago. However, Fall River did not have an answer for Assumption All-State senior Gena Grundhoffer, who set a new Division 5 scoring record with 35 points. She also set a new D5 mark for made free throws, finishing 17 of 19 from the line.

Assumption led 32-30 at halftime, but after a Fall River free throw to open the scoring, Assumption went on a 14-2 run for a 46-33 advantage, and the margin never got below ten the rest of the way.

Assumption's win sets up yet another showdown with Barneveld in the Division 5 title game. It marks the fourth straight year they'll meet for the championship, with Barneveld winning the last two seasons.

Attendance for the Friday morning Division 5 session was 4,206.
