Grant Basile

More than 160 players from across the state of Wisconsin traveled to Wisconsin Dells on Saturday to take part in the annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Prep Showcase at the Just A Game Fieldhouse.

Following are the award winners for the event, which attracted college coaches from throughout the state as well as some coaches from outside Wisconsin:

Most Valuable Player

Grant Basile, 6-8, Jr., F, Pewaukee

After averaging a rather modest 2.9 points per game as a sophomore reserve for a Pewaukee team that went 19-4 under coach and father Michael Basile, Grant Basile has emerged as perhaps the most improved player in Wisconsin in the class of 2018. The has grown a couple of inches since the end of last season and showed the ability to score around the basket and from mid-range facing the hoop. A hard-working player who is beginning to draw interest from NCAA Division I schools, Basile is poised for a breakout season for yet another very good squad at Pewaukee.

All-Showcase Team

Nolan Beirne, 6-3, Sr., F, New Holstein

An extremely active and productive wing prospect with very good strength, aggressiveness and skill, Bierne averaged 17.3 ppg as a junior and earned first-team all-league honors in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference.

Beau Cary, 6-8, Sr., F, Big Foot
One of the hottest prospects among NCAA Division III schools in the state, Cary continues to display vast improvement in his overall game. He runs the floor exceptionally, competes on each possession and is productive. He averaged 14.9 ppg and 8.0 rpg as a junior en route to earning first-team all-league honors in the Rock Valley South Conference.

Ben Jackson

Neal Cerveny, 6-2, Sr., G, Gresham
A solid all-around basketball player who makes good decisions and can score, Cerveny is one of Wisconsin's top scorers as he averaged 27.1 ppg as a junior for Gresham. Can score off the bounce and from outside the three-point arc.

Andrew Curtis, 5-11, Sr., G, Kenosha Indian Trail
Curtis is the latest backcourt standout from Indian Trail, which also includes senior Evan Newman (6-1). Curtis averaged 7.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg as the top reserve for Indian Trail coach Al Anderson last season.

Tyree Ellis, 6-4, Sr., F, Milwaukee Washington
One of three transfers who figures to make an immediate impact at Milwaukee Washington this winter, Ellis is an athletic, versatile player who can score, defend and rebound. He attended Milwaukee King as a sophomore and than sat out last season due to WIAA transfer rules. Ellis joins Akeir McKinney (5-9) of Milwaukee South and Kevin Clements (6-5) of Brown Deer as impact transfers at Washington.

Nic Frederick, 5-11, Jr., G, Westosha Central
A two-year varsity performer at Westosha Central entering his junior season, Frederick averaged 6.3 ppg as a sophomore for coach James Hyllberg. He teams with senior Tre' Williams to give the Falcons one of the better backcourt combinations in the Southern Lakes Conference.

Anthony Hendrickson, 6-5, Sr., F, Pecatonica
A versatile wing prospect who can play multiple positions, Hendrickson is active on both ends of the court, using his length and jumping ability to score and rebound at a high level. Hendrickson averaged 23.5 ppg as a junior and shared Player of the Year honors in the Six Rivers East with Tyler Dahl of Albany.

Ben Jackson, 6-4, Sr., F, Middleton
A great example of hard work paying off, Jackson has developed into a solid player thanks to endless hours spent in the gym working on his skills. Jackson is a very good long-distance shooter, but can also score off the dribble. He figures to make strong contributions for a very good Middleton team this winter.

Jaxon Knotek

Demetrius Johnson, 6-3, Soph., G, Whitefish Bay
With more than 160 players attending a five-hour showcase, it was hard to get a great read on every player. But it sure seemed like every time you looked up, Johnson was making a big play for his team. An outstanding young prospect who scored off the bounce and from beyond the three-point arc, Johnson played varsity minutes at Whitefish Bay as a freshman and should be a mainstay in the Blue Dukes' lineup the next three seasons.

Jaxon Knotek, 6-4, Jr., WF, River Falls
Maybe the breakout performer at the WBCA Prep Showcase, Knotek finished second in MVP voting behind Basile. He averaged 8.0 ppg as a sophomore at River Falls and showed the ability to impact the game with his ability to score, pass, defend and rebound. Very good all-around player with a promising future in the game.

Austin Konczal, 6-3, Sr., F, South Milwaukee
A key player off the bench for the Rockets a year ago, Konczal figures to move into the starting rotation for coach Chad Donahue in 2016-17. He averaged 5.0 ppg as a junior and showed in Wisconsin Dells he is ready to take his game to the next level for his final year of prep basketball.

Garrett Nelson

Quincy Minor Jr., 5-11, Jr., G, Wisconsin Lutheran
A backcourt player with good basketball instincts and the ability to score or set up his teammates, Minor played well for the Yellow Haze team in Wisconsin Dells. As a sophomore, Minor averaged 5.6 ppg and 1.7 rpg as a varsity reserve for coach Ryan Walz at Wisconsin Lutheran. He figures to be a mainstay in the Vikings' lineup the next two seasons.

Jaylin Moore, 5-10, Jr., G, Milwaukee Washington
The younger brother of former Whitefish Bay standout Elijah Moore, Jaylin Moore competed well in Wisconsin Dells and figures to be in the mix for minutes for a loaded Milwaukee Washington squad this season.

Garrett Nelson, 5-10, Sr., G, Beaver Dam
One of the more exciting players to watch in the state's class of 2017, Nelson is an ultra-quick point guard who can penetrate defenses and score or set up his teammates. He averaged 22.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as a junior and was named Player of the Year in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference.

Bryce Pedrin

Bryce Pedrin, 6-3, Sr., G, Howards Grove
Aggressive left-handed backcourt player who can handle the ball, score off the dribble and make three-point shots, Pedrin continues to impress college coaches with his productivity. He averaged 10.9 ppg as a junior at Howards Grove, helping the Tigers to a 21-5 record.

Jake Poetzl, 6-4, Soph., G/F, Marinette
Poetzl is a handful for any opposing defense as he can bury triples with the best of them while also using his height, strength and skill to score around the basket. He averaged 16.5 ppg and 8.1 rpg as a freshman at Marinette and earned second-team all-North Eastern Conference laurels.

Alex Ranney, 6-0, Sr., PG, Lake Mills
Ranney doesn't wow you with athleticism or lights-out shooting, but he is almost always on the winning side of the ledger. He helped his team win the WBCA Prep Showcase by doing what he always does -- handling the ball against pressure, penetrating the defense and making the extra pass while also playing strong defense.

Derek Sabin

Derek Sabin, 6-8, PF, Jr., Slinger
After recently earning a NCAA Division I scholarship offer from Green Bay coach Linc Darner, Sabin showed why he is so highly thought of at the WBCA Prep Showcase, using his considerable size and strength to score in the lane. He also owns a good perimeter stroke and can play inside or outside.

Troy Slaby, 5-11, Sr., PG, Stoughton
A two-time unanimous first-team all-league pick in the Badger South, Slaby is a physically strong lead guard who keeps his head up in transition, finds open teammates, makes perimeter shots and defends at a high level. He owns a couple of NAIA scholarship offers and figures to be one of the state's most recruited backcourt performers this winter.

Tyson Tully, 6-4, Jr., WG, Reedsburg
Along with Grant Basile, Tully might be the most improved and talked about player in the state in the class of 2018. His ability to consistently make jump shots is impressive as is his size and length. Very promising future for the Reedsburg wing guard.

Drew Yetka

Alex Van Crete, 6-3, Jr., F, Green Lake/Princeton
Active wing player who netted 13.5 ppg and grabbed 6.8 rpg as a sophomore starter at Green Lake/Princeton. His energy and productivity were impressive in Wisconsin Dells.

Drew Yetka, 6-6, Sr., F, Oak Creek
One of the most improved players in the state in the class of 2017, Yetka made perimeter shot after perimeter shot at Just A Game Fieldhouse. He appears poised for a very successful senior season for coach Mike Jossie at Oak Creek.
