Week 8 Player of the Week: Shawn Waalen, Amery
Shawn Waalen of Amery has been selected as the Week 8 Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Waalen helped the Warriors secure their first playoff spot in a decade. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 8. A total of 7,366 votes were cast, as Waalen's 2,623 were enough to edge second place Alex Zeinert of Menasha, who tallied 2,600.
The Warriors clinched their first postseason appearance since 2006, likely ending Somerset's 14-year playoff run in the process. Waalen had 26 carries for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Amery won 21-14.
