Not much was going right in the first half for Ozaukee in Saturday's WIAA boys basketball Regional Final against Lourdes Academy. The Warriors gave up 22 points, but scored just 7 themselves. Trailing by 15 with the season on the line, it appeared a solid 2016-17 campaign would come to an end.
However, Ozaukee showed the kind of resiliency it displayed earlier this year when they dropped five straight and six out of seven over a month span from early December to early January, only to rebound with nine straight victories.
The Warriors found their stroke in the second half of the playoff showdown with a surging Lourdes Academy squad, led by senior Garrett Hoffmann. The 6-3 guard scored 22 of his game-high 26 points after halftime, as Ozaukee rallied to out-score the Knights 36-12 in the final 18 minutes to secure a 43-34 victory and the regional title.
Third-seeded Ozaukee will face off against fourth-seeded Howards Grove on Wednesday at 7 pm at Sheboygan North.
