Senior Boys Basketball Awards: Post Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list previously was trimmed to 15 semi-finalists, and now five finalists for the award have been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL AWARDS -- POST FINALISTS

Will Chevalier, 6-8, Kimberly – A three-year varsity performer who signed a letter of intent last November to play college basketball at Green Bay, Chevalier is a two-time first-team all-league pick in the Fox Valley Association. A skilled post player who can hurt opponents in the paint and from the perimeter, Chevalier is a 1,000-point career scorer who is averaging 20.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for a very strong Kimberly squad.  He is shooting 51 percent from the field, 84 percent from the foul line and 38 percent from three-point range.

Owen Hamilton, 7-1, Prescott – Hamilton has been dominant for much of the season while leading Prescott to its third straight title in the Middle Border Conference. He is averaging 24.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per contest while shooting 65 percent from the floor and 67 percent from the free-throw line. A 1,000-point career scorer, Hamilton will play at NCAA Division I Northern Illinois in the fall.

Alex Ohde, 6-7, McDonell Central – A four-year varsity performer for coach Archie Sherbinow at McDonell Central, Ohde recently was named Player of the Year in the Western Cloverbelt Conference. The UW-River Falls recruit is averaging 14.8 points and 9.7 rebounds while shooting 56 percent from the field and 76 percent from the foul line. Ohde helped McDonell Central to the WIAA Division 5 state title a year ago and has scored more than 1,200 points in his prep career.

Sarion McGee, 6-7, Destiny – An old-school post-up player with great size and strength, McGee is a dependable interior scorer for the Eagles. A four-year varsity performer for coach Branden Joseph, McGee is averaging 13.9 points per outing for the top-ranked Eagles. His ability to play with his back to the basket and either score or draw fouls is a consistent asset for Destiny.

Bennett Vander Plas, 6-8, Ripon – The son of Ripon coach Dean Vander Plas, Bennett Vander Plas is closing in on 1,600 career points. The Ohio University recruit is having a big senior season while leading the Tigers to an unbeaten record. He is averaging 19.8 points, 12.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 58 percent from the floor, 67 percent from the foul line and 38 percent from three-point range.
