Loyal earns comeback win over Milwaukee Academy of Science to capture D5 title

Loyal overcame a 13-point second half deficit to defeat Milwaukee Academy of Science, 74-61, and capture the Division 5 state title. 

Loyal outscored Milwaukee Academy of Science 35-9 in the final 10:18 after trailing 52-39 at the point. 

UW-Oshkosh recruit Karsyn Rueth finished with a team-high 25 points and 9 rebounds for Loyal. 

Fellow senior Morgan Reinwand tallied 23 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals for the Greyhounds. Freshman Remi Geiger added 10 points. 

Sophomore Shemera Williams was spectacular for the Novas in the loss, finishing with a Division 5 state tournament record of 40 points. She shot 

Williams has a number of Division I offers, including in-state schools Wisconsin and Marquette. 

The 73 points Shemera scored at the state tournament is a new Division 5 state tournament record, breaking the 55 points Gena Grundhoffer (Assumption) scored last season. Grundhoffer also had the single-game record before Williams broke that this morning.
