Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

There weren't many games due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but a few teams were in action over the weekend or on Monday.

UW-Baraboo played a pair of games, defeating UW-Barron 69-58 on Saturday, as John Franklin led four players in double figures with 20 points. The Fighting Spirits would go down in a 95-53 blowout loss to Rock Valley College in Rockford on Monday however.

UW-Sheboygan participated in the Lindquist Classic in Ironwood, Michigan. "We struggled with turnovers all weekend in two closely contested games," said head coach William Greenwood II. Despite shooting 30-for-55 from the field, the team fell to Gogebic Community College 82-75 on Saturday, as Gogebic made 10-of-16 three-point attempts after halftime. Bay College opened Sunday's game against Sheboygan on a 17-0 run, and while the Wombats battled back, it was too big of a deficit to recover from in a 70-58 defeat. Sheboygan did get back on the left side of the ledger with a 66-61 win over Concordia JV on Monday night.

The UW-Richland Roadrunners got their first win of the season on Monday, defeating UW-Fond du Lac in a non-conference crossover. Montrell Hannah had a team-high 27 points (including 18-of-23 from the free throw line) in the 89-86 victory, while McKenzie Foege poured in 17. The Roadrunners made just 27 of 44 free throw attempts, but hit 10 three-pointers in the game.

Looking Ahead

The schedule gets quite a bit busier, with 14 men's basketball games between now and next Wednesday.

There are four games set for this evening: Richland at Rock, Fond du Lac at Waukesha, Washington at Manitowoc, and Fox Valley at Marinette.

Five more games are on the docket for Saturday, all set for afternoon tip-offs.

Four games are on tap for next Monday, including what should be an interesting contest between Waukesha and Marinette. The Buccaneers of Marinette are 2-0 thus far, averaging better than 100 points per game. Waukesha is just 1-3, but has played a very challenging schedule.

WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Hannah, UW-Richland

The UW-Richland Roadrunners scored their first win of the year on Monday night, defeating UW-Fond du Lac 89-86. The game was tied at halftime, but Richland had just enough to score the victory. Montrell Hannah led the way for Richland with 27 points on just 11 credited field goal attempts, as he shot 23 free throws in the game, making 18. He added 6 assists and three steals as well for head coach Zach Thayer.
