Senior Boys Basketball Awards: Point Guard Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The pre-season watch list previously was trimmed to 15 semi-finalists, and now five finalists for the award have been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state tournament. Finalists are eligible for just one of the five awards. There will be a total of 25 finalists for the five awards, five different players for each award.

Senior Boys Basketball Awards -- Point Guard Finalists

Pete Brookshaw, 6-0, Prescott -- The four-year varsity performer is averaging 30.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists for a Prescott squad that takes a 22-2 record into Thursday's Division 3 sectional semifinal game against Ellsworth. Brookshaw is exceptionally quick and very accurate with his shooting as he has made 81 of 186 attempts from three-point range for 44 percent. Brookshaw helped Prescott increase its string of conference titles in the Middle Border Conference to five in a row and its league winning streak to 59 straight this winter.

Tyrese Haliburton, 6-6, Oshkosh North -- The Iowa State recruit has been nothing short of sensational for yet another extremely strong team at Oshkosh North. The athletic, tall and skilled lead guard is averaging 23.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists heading into the Spartans' Division 1 sectional semifinal game Thursday against Eau Claire North. A likely two-time MVP in the state's deepest and most talented conference, the Fox Valley Association, Haliburton has led Oshkosh North to 47-2 mark the past two seasons.

Gacoby Jones, 6-1, Whitefish Bay Dominican -- A very talented and smooth lead guard who can score from the perimeter and off the dribble, Jones is averaging 20.8 points and 4.3 assists for a Dominican squad that takes a 19-5 mark into its Division 3 sectional semifinal game against Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Jones has picked up NCAA Division II scholarship offers from Bemidji State, Sioux Falls and Wayne State (Nebraska). 

Jordan McCabe, 6-0, Kaukauna -- A four-year varsity player and one of four class of 2018 players in the state to score 2,000 career points -- John Diener of Cedarburg, JC Butler of The Prairie School and Tyler Herro of Whitnall are the others -- McCabe is averaging 26.9 points for Kaukauna, which finished second to Oshkosh North in the Fox Valley Association and takes a 21-3 mark into its Division 2 sectional semifinal game against Pulaski. The West Virginia recruit is one of the all-time best ball handlers and passers in state prep hoops history in addition to his ability to score.

Hunter Plamann, 6-1, Appleton Xavier -- The all-time leading scorer in Xavier history with 1,725 career points heading into the Hawks' Division 3 sectional semifinal game against Wrightstown, Plamann is averaging 22.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists. Plamann has played an enormous role in helping Xavier to a school-record 52 straight victories dating back to the state of last season. He plans to play college basketball at NCAA Division II Minnesota-Duluth.
