Looking Back

There were four games last Wednesday night, which is the most WCC women's games in a single day to date. Two of them were conference affairs, with a couple non-league contests as well.

In WCC play, Marshfield picked up its first victory of the season, defeating winless Barron 42-36. Kara Milkey (Assumption HS) was the only player in double-figures with ten points, as the Marauders won despite shooting just 16-of-87 from the field, 0-of-9 from three, and 10-of-26 from the free throw line.

Waukesha scored a 74-49 win over Washington on Wednesday as Aleah Herron (Milwaukee King) led the way with 22 points.

The two non-conference games on Wednesday did not go well for WCC squads, as Gogebic (MI) topped Marinette 86-74 and Wisconsin Lutheran beat Fond du Lac 75-58.

Saturday was an important showdown between Fond du Lac and Waukesha. Fondy was looking to stay tied atop the WCC with Marinette while Waukesha entered the contest just a game behind. Fond du Lac used a strong middle portion of the game to outlast Waukesha 75-62 behind 31 points from Hailey Rusch (Lomira) to go with 18 by Cassidy Williams (Winnebago Lutheran) and 13 from Hannah Preissner (Winnebago Lutheran).

A pair of games on Monday night were postponed.

Looking Ahead

There are no games currently scheduled for this evening, as weather continues to impact campuses around the state.

Waukesha gets another shot at one of the WCC co-leaders on Saturday, as the Cougars travel to Marinette for a men's and women's doubleheader. The teams met back in November in what was technically a non-conference game. Marinette pulled away for a 67-46 victory back then.

Also Saturday, Marathon welcomes in Gogebic (MI) Community College for a non-conference friendly. The Huskies have a conference game on Monday against Marshfield.

After the trip to Marinette over the weekend, Waukesha will play a home game against Edgewood College on Monday. Also Monday, Fond du Lac travels to Washington in a league game.

WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Hailey Rusch, Fond du Lac

It is the second award this year for Rusch, a Lomira High School graduate. The Falcons remained in a tie for first place in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference with a 75-62 victory over third-place Waukesha on Saturday. Rusch scored a career-high 31 points, making 8-of-14, three-point attempts. The 5'4" guard also tied a career high with nine rebounds in the road victory.
