Waterford senior Emma Karpinski has been selected as the Athlete of the Week for the week of May 13 through 19.

There was a total of 1,770 votes cast this week. Emma finished first with 687 votes. Webster's Owen Washburn finished second with a total of 569 votes.

Emma was dominant as she placed first in two individual sprints at the Southern Lakes Conference meet last week. Those wins combined with her second place finish in a relay win helped lead Waterford to taking home a first place finish at the meet. Emma took home a first place finish in the 100 meter sprint with a time of 13.05. She then won the 200 meter race with a time of 26.52. Lastly, Emma was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that took second.

In regional action earlier this week, Emma was a part of the first place 4x400 relay, the third place 4x100 relay, and took second in the 200 meter sprint. She will advance to sectionals in those events.
