PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 27 - June 2

Drew Bosley, Homestead boys track and field: Drew secured two individual first place finishes this past weekend at the WIAA State Track Meet at UW-La Crosse. He took home gold in the division one, 1600 meter run with a time of 4:12.14. He then competed in the 3200 meter run which he also won with a time of 8:57.70. That time set a 14 year old state record by a measly .03 seconds. Drew also was fourth in the 800 meter run and contributed greatly to Homestead's third place finish in division one.

Lukas Beck, Aquinas boys track and field: Lukas was incredible this past weekend as he set one individual and was a part of a relay record setting team. First, in the 100 meter dash, Lukas took home gold with a time of 10.78 seconds, which set a new record in division three. He then won the 200 meter dash in 21.84 seconds, falling short of the record by .11 seconds. Finally, Lukas was the last leg in the 4x200 meter relay winning team with a time of 1:28.88. That time beat last year's Cambridge relay record for division three. The Aquinas boy's team took home a first place finish in division three with 58 total points.

Maddie Gardner, Sun Prairie softball: Maddie was exceptional on the mound and added some much needed power from the plate as Sun Prairie advanced to the state tournament. In a 3-2 sectional semi-final win over Onalaska, Maddie pitched a complete game, striking out 15 batters in the process. She allowed two hits and two runs. From the plate, she hit a solo home run. In the following 10-3 sectional final win over Verona she again was phenomenal from the plate and the mound. From the mound, she struck out nine batters in complete game fashion. At the plate, she went two of four with a two-run home run.

Roisin Willis, Stevens Point girls track and field: Roisin absolutely destroyed the state's record in the 800 meter run this past weekend as she ran to a first place finish. Her time of 2:05.68 was almost four seconds better than the previous record held by Cami Davre of Whitefish Bay. Willis, who is just a freshman, also was a part of the 4x400 meter relay team. She joined Taylor Knoczal, Maddie Hyland, and Mallory Greenwood for a time of 3:53.81.

Jessica Brueggeman, Royall girls track and field: Jessica competed in four different events at the state meet this past weekend and set a pair of individual, division three, records along the way. Jessica ran in both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams, and also took part in two different jumping events. She won the long jump with a distance of 18-08.25. That broke a ten year, division three, state record. Jessica then set the division three state triple jump record with a distance of 38-09.75 to cap off her sophomore season.
