A changing of the guard highlighted the winners of the 2018 WSN Cup awards.

Arrowhead's dominance of the Large Schools Division came to an end, as Middleton surged ahead early in the year and held on to take home its first trophy. Catholic Memorial won the Medium Schools Division for a second time. After winning a sixth Medium Schools trophy last year, Edgewood moved down to the Small Schools for 2018-19 and posted a dominating win.

The WSN Cup is in its 12th year, recognizing schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both boy's and girl's sports. All current WIAA sponsored sports are included as part of the scoring for the award.

Large School Division

For the first time ever, Arrowhead did not win the WSN Cup Large School Division. Instead, after several close calls, Middleton ascends to the top spot with 762.36 points in the 2018-19 school year.

It was all about consistency for the Cardinals, who scored at least 200 points in fall, winter, and spring. Middleton led from the beginning of the year, with a huge fall season that included a state title in girls swimming and diving to go with runner-up finishes in girls golf and boys cross country. The girls basketball team and boys swimming and diving also posted runner-up finishes during the winter, while boys golf also finished as runner-up in the spring.

The Cardinals of Middleton narrowly held off the Cardinals of Big Eight rival Sun Prairie, who scored 748 points as the Large School runner-up. Muskego was third, followed by Arrowhead and Kimberly.

The top spring sports score went to Muskego, as the Warriors racked up 261.5 points thanks in large to state titles in girls track and girls soccer.

Medium School Division

With defending champion Madison Edgewood moving down to the Small Schools, it opened up the top spot in the Medium Schools Division. Catholic Memorial took advantage, winning its second-ever WSN Cup trophy with 610 total points.

The Crusaders led after fall sports, with a titles in football, a runner-up finish in girls tennis, and a state appearance in boys volleyball. They fell behind Whitefish Bay after the winter sports, but a big spring allowed them to take it home with a girls soccer title and boys tennis semi-final trip.

The school had the highest spring sports total among Medium School teams with 218.

Catholic Memorial's season total of 610 points was the fourth-highest overall this year. In the Medium Schools Division they edged out second place Whitefish Bay by more than 50 points, with Freedom, Notre Dame, and McFarland rounding out the top five.

Small School Division

Edgewood dropped down to the Small Schools Division for the first time, as their enrollment is now under 500. After winning the Medium Schools Division last year, they are the top finisher among Small Schools this season.

It was a huge year for the Crusaders, whose 740.86 points was third-highest among all schools and just 22 points behind Middleton for the top spot.

It was a wire-to-wire victory in the Small Schools Division for Edgewood, who got fall titles from girls golf and girls swimming & diving, a boys swimming & diving championship in the winter, plus a boys golf title and girls soccer runner-up finish in the spring.

Behind Edgewood was Aquinas with 542.3 points, while University School, Stratford, and Lake Country Lutheran round out the top five.

Congratulations to the winners and a great job by all the teams during an outstanding and exciting 2018-19 sports season.

Look for the WSN Cup to appear in the winning schools' trophy cases this fall.
