The Muskego Warriors have been selected as the Week 1 WSN Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team opened its title defense with a hard-fought victory over Marquette in a huge non-conference showdown. The Warriors were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 3,579 votes were cast, as Muskego's 1,375 votes edged Madison Memorial's 901 votes.

It was a titanic way to open the 2019 season, as defending Division 1 state champion Muskego faced off Thursday night against Marquette, a team they topped in a tight state semi-final game last year. Muskego was ranked #1 in Division 1 in our off-season rankings, while Marquette entered the year sixth. The game certainly lived up to the hype. A defensive battle most of the way, Marquette scored first and led 10-7 at halftime, a score that remained until midway through the fourth quarter. That's when Muskego's Wing-T offense finally started to find some openings, culminating in Josh Bulski's two-yard touchdown run. The Warriors would get a stop of Marquette's offense on the next possession then run out the clock for a 14-10 victory. Bulski finished the game with 28 carries for 163 yards, and while explosive running back Alex Current was limited to negative three yards on three carries, he did get loose for a 56-yard touchdown catch early in the second quarter.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
