Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. This week in the Alumni Round-up you’ll see many familiar faces from week’s past. Four athletes garnered conference player of the week honors for a second, third, or fourth time. Aside from those stand outs, a pair of former alums excelled in the professional ranks; both in the NBA and the G League.

We’ll begin and end with one of those professional athletes. Milwaukee Vincent grad Deonte Burton has had his playing time fluctuate all year for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Burton, who was a WBCA All-State selection in the 2012-13 season, scored 11 points in a season high 23 minutes as the Thunder lost 107-97 to the Dallas Mavericks.

Andrew Bruggink has been featured many times in past iterations of the Alumni Round-up. The Brookfield Central grad has helped steer Wisconsin Lutheran to their best record in over 20 years at 13-4. In a 101-77 win over Rockford, Andrew had a career high 37 points. He then set a new career high with 38 points in a 95-86 win over Aurora College. Andrew connected on 12 of 16 shots from beyond the arc in the wins. He was named the NACC Player of the Week for the second straight week and third overall. Andrew, who leads the NACC in scoring with 23.9 points per game, was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.

The 2018 Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin, Jordan McCabe is a part of the starting rotation for the twelfth-ranked West Virginia boys basketball team. The Mountaineer rotation sees many players garner minutes. Jordan, a Kaukauna grad, scored a season high 10 points in a season high 23 minutes in a 97-59 win over Texas.

In speaking of former Mr. Basketballs, Marcus Domask continues to shine in his freshman season at Southern Illinois. The Waupun alum had 11 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in a 68-66 win over Northern Iowa. Marcus followed that up with 19 points and six rebounds in a 58-55 win over Illinois State. He scored 16 of those points in the second half, helping secure the tight victory. Marcus, who is close to having a 50-40-90 season, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.

Kyle Monroe has been dominating Division 2 basketball for four years now at Michigan Tech. Already having scored over 2,000 points and being named a GLIAC First Team All-Conference, Kyle continues to impress. The Ashwaubenon grad went ahead and scored a Michigan Tech and GLIAC record 53 points in their 95-93 overtime loss to Grand Valley State. Kyle made 20 of 28 shots, including 10 of 13 from three point land. He followed that up with a game high 23 points and nine rebounds in a 69-61 win over Davenport. Kyle was named the GLIAC Player of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Sun Prairie graduate Marlon Ruffin impressed as Omaha picked up a pair of wins this past week. First in an 87-82 win over Western Illinois, Marlon scored 12 points. The 2017-18 WBCA All-State selectee then scored 11 points in a 75-71 win over Purdue Fort Wayne. Marlon has now scored in double figures in six straight games.

UW-Oshkosh looks to be back on track since entering WIAC conference play and Marshfield High School’s Adam Fravert has been a big reason why. In a 105-96 win over UW-Stevens Point, Adam had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Teammate and Kimberly grad Levi Borchert scored 20 points. From the other bench, Ethan Bublitz of Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Blake Ehrke of Deerfield, and Garrett Nelson of Beaver Dam all scored over 20 points for the Pointers.

Adam then poured in 24 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in a 73-71 win over UW-Whitewater. Adam has posted double-doubles in Oshkosh’s last four games. For his incredible play, Adam was named the WIAC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, including his third in four weeks.

Speaking of double-doubles, Alex Arians recorded his second double-double of the season. The Madison Edgewood High School alum had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while adding six assists in South Dakota State’s 78-73 win over North Dakota State.

A month ago, Henry Ellenson was on the Brooklyn Nets roster, seeing playing time rarely. The Rice Lake grad was released and then picked up by the G League Raptors 905 squad. Since, he has been dominant. In his first game, Henry had 25 points and 15 rebounds despite a 108-101 loss to the Greensboro Saints. He followed that up by pouring in 31 points in a 129-118 win over the Memphis Hustle. The change of scenery seems to have lit a fire in the 2015 Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin.
