D3 State Semi-Final Notes: Undefeated Platteville and Wrightstown advance to title game before tournament gets canceled

Platteville topped Arcadia, 48-45, in a Division 3 state semifinal on Thursday afternoon at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

Following the Thursday games the WIAA canceled the remainder of the winter sports season due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Hillmen led Arcadia 21-19 at the break after ending the first half on an 11-2 run. 

Arcadia took a short-lived lead at 26-24 with 14:41 left before Platteville went on a 7-0 run to take a 31-26 lead with 12:44 to play. 

The Hillmen led the rest of the way to earn a trip in the D3 state championship game. 

Senior Sami Martin, a Bradley University signee, finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds and three steals for Platteville.

Fellow senior Becca Hoyer, a UW-Platteville commit, added 11 points and two steals for the Hillmen. 

Arcadia was led by senior Ellie Hoesley, a Viterbo University signee, who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. 

Fellow senior Linzy Sendelbach contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Raiders. 

Platteville finished the year with a 26-0 record. They were scheduled to play Wrightstown for the Division 3 state title before the cancelation of the state tournament. 

Wrightstown defeated Lake Mills, 62-54, in a D3 state semifinal. They were scheduled to play Platteville in the state championship game before cancelation of the rest of tournament.  

The Tigers ended the game on an 8-0 run and held Lake Mills scoreless in the final 2:53. 

Wrightstown was led by sophomore Leah Lemke, who finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists. 

Seniors Meghan Riha, a Ripon College commit, and Ella Diny, a Cardinal Strich signee, tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Tigers. 

Wrightstown was playing without senior Bridget Froehlke, a UMKC signee, who suffered a torn ACL in her left knee during practice on Monday. 

Lake Mills was led by junior Jade Pitta, who finished with 18 piotns and seven rebounds.
